Everyone wants to know the key to a successful relationship, and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson’s wife Ciara seems to have the keys to exactly that. In a recent interview with Bustle, the singer and dancer talked about what skills Wilson uses to keep their love alive.
Ciara’s Key to a Strong Marriage
Ciara says that one of the keys to her and Wilson’s strong marriage is communication.
“What I will give my husband credit for is he can communicate really well. It’s the quarterback in him. He’s so used to having to do that anyway…Sometimes you got to say the ugly before you get to the pretty.”
The couple have been married for almost nine years and share four children, including Ciara’s oldest son from a previous relationship.
Another key to their relationship, she says, is that the two turn up the sexy for one another.
“You need to still turn up the sexy. He walks through the door, and I’m like, ‘OK!’ Because he intentionally went in to go get sexier, to get cute. For me, the same thing. It’s a lot sometimes with four kids and doing everything else, but I feel so good when I put in effort and he sees it.”
Despite her having four children, Wilson still appreciates Ciara’s looks and supports her.
“I also was kind of loving this fourth-baby version of me. My baby definitely put a little bit more on my hips and there is, as Russell says, ‘more to grab on’…I want to lean up a little bit more, tone up more, and he’s like, ‘Don’t get crazy.’”
But maybe the most important thing in keeping the love alive is making quality time for one another. Ciara says she and her husband still have date nights.
“I’m really looking forward to just being with him, talking about life, looking into each other’s eyes, holding each other’s hands, doing all those things that you do in the beginning… Search for the beginning at all points as best as you can because we know what that feels like in the beginning — there’s this excitement.”
Before she and Wilson got together, Ciara dated rapper Future whom she shares her oldest child with. Wilson himself was also married before. Both had bad public breakups, especially Ciara whose relationship was splashed all over gossip websites. Yet, then she met Wilson, and the two have been living happily ever after since 2016.
