Christian Watson Injury Update: Latest News Surrounding the Packers WR

    Published on

After a 37-yard catch late against the Rams, Packers WR Christian Watson exited the contest with an injury. What happened?

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson left the team’s Week 9 contest against the Los Angeles Rams with just under five minutes remaining. Here’s the latest status on Watson’s injury.

    Christian Watson Injury Update

Watson has only played in four games this season, as he dealt with a hamstring injury early in the year. And with the Packers up 20-3 against the Rams, looking to snap a four-game losing streak, Watson hauled in a contested 37-yard reception on 3rd-and-12. However, he was visibly shaken up after the catch and immediately went to the sideline.

There was a lot of contact on the play, but Watson was able to head to the locker room on his own power.

Soon after, the team stated he suffered chest and back injuries and is being evaluated for a concussion.

Watson left the contest with just two targets and the lone 37-yard catch. Thus far in 2023, he has produced 11 receptions for 176 yards and a TD on 24 targets.

    Fantasy Fallout From Watson’s Injury

There has been no separation among the Green Bay targets in an inconsistent offense led by Jordan Love, but Watson’s injury could give us some clarity. Romeo Doubs earned targets at a reasonable rate earlier this season when Watson was nursing his hamstring injury, and he moves into the Flex conversation should Watson miss time.

Jayden Reed’s stock elevates to that of a roster-worthy player, but he still needs to prove capable of earning targets on a consistent basis before being considered by fantasy managers.

Luke Musgrave is the other pass catcher of note, and his uptick in target projection moves him up the TE streamer radar, though the floor remains low in a passing game that has been stuck in the mud for the majority of the season (with or without Watson).
