Christian McCaffrey TD Streak: 49ers Star Can Break NFL Record With 16th-Straight Scoring Game

After scoring a touchdown in 15 straight games, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey could break an NFL record Monday night.

Christian McCaffrey has been a key and consistent piece of the San Francisco 49ers offense for the last two seasons, and he is on the brink of breaking an NFL record.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Christian McCaffrey Could Break an NFL Record Tonight

Update 9:20 p.m. ET, 10/23/23: Injury or not, McCaffrey managed to get into the endzone regardless against the Vikings. The 49ers are still down 10-7 before the half, but the RB has gotten his team back into the game while also breaking an NFL record.

In tonight’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, McCaffrey has the chance to extend his scoring streak to 16 games and break the NFL record for most consecutive games with a touchdown.

His current streak of 15 ties him with Washington running back John Riggins and Buffalo Bills running back O.J. Simpson. The streak began last season on Dec. 4, 2022, against the Miami Dolphins, as he caught a touchdown pass. In every 49ers game since, he has found the end zone for a score at least once.

Last week, the running back caught a 13-yard touchdown pass on San Francisco’s opening drive to extend his streak to 15.

Through the 15-game streak, McCaffrey has scored 19 total touchdowns. While he’s tied for the top spot in consecutive scores, his total touchdown number is lower than Riggins and Simpson, who had 25 and 24, respectively, during their streaks. These streaks also include playoff matchups.

Additionally, since Week 7 of the 2022 season, nobody has more scrimmage yards than McCaffrey with 1,940.

In terms of the regular-season streak, McCaffrey has a ways to go in terms of breaking the record. His streak of regular-season games with a touchdown currently sits at 12, which is the seventh longest in NFL history. LaDainian Tomlinson holds that record with 18 games from Oct. 3, 2004, to Oct. 16, 2005.

Should McCaffrey score a touchdown in Monday Night Football, he will move into a tie for third for consecutive touchdowns scored in regular-season games. So far this season, he has put up 553 yards on 110 carries, averaging five yards per carry and tacking on seven touchdowns.

The 49ers currently sit at 5-1 and will take on the 2-4 Vikings in hopes of bouncing back from their devastating 19-17 loss to the Browns last week.
