Both Kansas City Chiefs fans and players are thrilled to hear the news that wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will join the team. The team has been struggling to pass due to the extensive injury list to the WR room, including Rashee Rice’s season-ending injury.
Following the confirmation of the news, Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones expressed his excitement about the team’s new addition with a post on X, saying, “Let’s gooooooooooooo.”

Hopkins joining the Chiefs is coming at a good time as Rice isn’t the only one on the roster affected by injuries; their offseason acquisition, Marquise Brown, also had to go on the injured reserve because of a collarbone injury he suffered during a preseason matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In addition, the Chiefs’ starting running back, Isiah Pacheco, suffered a fractured fibula in Week 2 and has been out ever since.
It’s safe to say the Chiefs needed somebody as soon as possible that can fill the gap made by all these injuries. The former Tennessee Titans WR is in the final year of his two-year deal. The cost of the trade? A conditional fifth-round draft pick that can turn into a fourth-round pick if Hopkins plays 60%+ of the Chiefs snaps).
Last year, Hopkins caught a total of 75 passes for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns before suffering a torn knee ligament in the offseason. In the last six games played, he’s caught 15 catches for 173 yards with one score.
Will DeAndre Hopkins Make His Debut With the Chiefs on Sunday?
According to the Athletic’s Diana Russini, Hopkins may be making his debut against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in Week 8.
Hopkins will be getting on the plane later on Wednesday and will most probably attend the training sessions with his new team on Thursday and Friday before getting on the field this week.
“While the Titans and Chiefs continue to iron out the details of the trade, the Chiefs are expecting DeAndre Hopkins to land in Kansas City later today and the hope is to get him ready to play on Sunday against the Raiders, per sources,” Russini reported.
Fans would be interested to see how the new Chiefs addition will help the offense develop big-play ability for the rest of the season.
