The NFL announcing world changed drastically after Amazon acquired the rights to Thursday Night Football. After last year’s commentating musical chairs amongst the networks, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman moved from FOX to ESPN in 2022 to become the new voices of Monday Night Football.
However, with ESPN broadcasting three MNF doubleheaders in the 2023 regular season, the first of which airs this week, will Buck and Aikman call both games? Let’s examine how ESPN plans to split up Monday Night Football coverage for its doubleheaders.
Chris Fowler, Dan Orlovsky, and Louis Riddick Announcing Monday Night Football
While NFL fans have just become accustomed to Buck and Aikman as the new voices of Monday Night Football on ESPN, the Week 2 doubleheader changes some things up.
Since they cannot be in two places simultaneously, ESPN will deploy its second announcer crew to cover the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers NFC South throwdown.

With a 7:15 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN and ESPN2, Chris Fowler, Dan Orlovsky, and Louis Riddick will handle commentating duties for the first Monday Night Football game tonight.
Fowler will handle play-by-play duties while Orlovsy and Riddick provide the analysis. While fans may have grown accustomed to seeing Steve Levy take play-by-play duties for ESPN, Fowler replaces the veteran sportscaster on Monday Night Football this offseason.
Are Joe Buck and Troy Aikman announcing Monday Night Football in Week 2?
With Fowler, Riddick, and Orlovsky headed to Charlotte, NC, to cover the Saints and Panthers Week 2 duel, where are Buck and Aikman?
The prolific announcing duo heads to Pittsburgh, PA, to announce the second Monday Night Football game tonight between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers in Acrisure Stadium at 8:15 p.m. ET. The duo can be found on ABC this week as ESPN’s sister channel under the Disney umbrella airs the second NFL game tonight.
