Chris Broussard Picks Jordan Love as ‘Best QB in NFC’ Over Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford Ahead of TNF Matchup vs. Lions

    Published on

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love received high praise ahead of an important matchup on Thursday Night Football against the Lions.

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers have won seven of their last eight games to stand at 9-3 on the season. They will be up against the Detroit Lions (11-1) on Thursday Night Football in Week 14 in a game that holds a lot of importance in the NFC North.

The Lions already defeated the Packers in Week 9 earlier this season, and a win tonight will put them in a great spot to win the division. However, if they lose, the Minnesota Vikings and the Packers will have a shot at winning the division.

Love, who had a rough start to the season, has found form and will be motivated to avoid the season sweep to the Lions.

Chris Broussard Makes a Case for Jordan Love as NFC’s QB1

Love was recently praised on “First Things First,” as Chris Broussard thinks that the Packers star is the best quarterback in the NFC.

“I talked yesterday about how Jordan Love gets going in the second half of seasons,” Broussard said. “That’s just a fact, right? He’s got four touchdowns, no picks. He was throwing picks left and right early in the season, no picks his last two games.”

The Fox Sports analyst added, “I think Jordan Love is the best quarterback in the NFC; not playing like it right now, but I’ll take Jordan Love in the NFC over the guys that are going to be in the playoffs. … I agree he’s not having the best season, but neither is [Patrick Mahomes]. And I know he’s not Mahomes, doesn’t have the track record of Mahomes, but Jordan Love, I think, has more talent than Jared Goff.”

Broussard was interrupted by Nick Wright, who wanted to remind him of Matthew Stafford, but the former was confident about his decision to pick Love. Amid the Packers’ three-game winning streak, their quarterback has thrown for 698 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception. He has completed 69.1% of his throws with a passer rating of 120.8, averaging 10.3 yards per pass attempt.

Love threw 10 interceptions in his first seven games this season, but like last year, he has started to play well in the second half of the campaign. In the last eight games of the 2023 NFL season, the Packers star threw for 2,150 yards, 18 touchdowns, and one interception, completing 70.3% of his throws and having a passer rating of 112.7. His team went 6-2 during this run and later shocked the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round.

Unless something catastrophic happens, the Packers are expected to make the playoffs. A win against the Lions, which many consider the best team in the NFL, could instill the confidence required for the Packers to make a run at the Super Bowl this season.

Does Love Have the Potential To End Up as an All-Time Great?

So far, Love hasn’t won any major accolades, but just by seeing how he plays the game, it’s not hard to say he is the next great Packers quarterback. He is often labeled as a mixture of Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, as he can make all types of throws but can be reckless at times.

Love proved last season that he can perform under the brightest lights and is their franchise quarterback. This past offseason, he was rewarded with a four-year, $220 million contract extension, and recent performances show that he deserved it.

The Packers came close to defeating the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round last season, and Love now has expectations to lead his team to a deep playoff run in 2024. Green Bay has an excellent team, and its quarterback has the opportunity to make a name for himself.

Like Broussard, many others also consider Love the best NFC quarterback, as he has shown early promise to potentially finish his career as an all-time great. In his young career, Love has already won against the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, and Justin Herbert. A win against the formidable Lions team, who have looked unstoppable this year, will look pretty good on his résumé.
