Who Is Chris Braswell? Height, Weight, Age, and More

Former Alabama LB Chris Braswell was rated as a five-star prospect coming out of St. Frances. Here's more on the edge rusher and his potential.

Outside linebacker Chris Braswell is a Baltimore, Md. native and ranks as a top-50 prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Braswell was the No. 15 player in the country, the No. 2 linebacker and player from Maryland in the 2020 recruiting class, per On3. During his senior season at St. Frances Academy, Braswell had 13 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles.

Four years later, he’s set to embark on his NFL journey.

Braswell measured at 6’3 3/8″ at the NFL Combine. His height is in the 44th percentile, per MockDraftable. For comparison, former Alabama edge rusher and current NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Will Anderson Jr., measured in at 6’3 3/4″ at the Combine.

    How Old Is Braswell?

The Ringer’s Nora Princiotti wrote that the average age of a first-round selection dropped from 22.6 in 2000 to 21.7 in 2018.

What School Did Braswell Go To?

Clearly, Braswell isn’t the first, nor will he be the last, player in NFL history to have played at Alabama. So far, 422 players from the Crimson Tide have been selected in the NFL Draft, and 396 have played pro football, per Pro Football Reference.

    Revisiting Braswell’s College Career

Braswell didn’t play his freshman season in 2020 and played sparingly in 2021 with 13 total tackles (seven solo) and one tackle for loss.

He made more of an impact in 2022, making 20 tackles (eight solo), four tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.

Braswell’s final season with the Crimson Tide was his best, posting 42 tackles (16 solo), 10.5 TFLs, eight sacks, one interception returned for a touchdown, a pass deflection, and three forced fumbles. He was named as a second-team All-SEC selection in 2023.

    Braswell’s Potential in the NFL

Braswell’s 40-yard dash was 4.6 seconds with a 1.59-second split. He added a vertical jump of 33.5″ and a broad jump of 9’7″ at the Combine and didn’t run the three-cone drill or the 20-yard shuttle. He also didn’t do the bench press.

Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings believes Braswell has a strong base to build from. Braswell’s ability to grow as an athlete could make him a prospect that defensive coaches can mold into a strong asset.

“The word that comes to mind for Braswell’s pass-rush aura is ‘workmanlike,'” Cummings wrote. “His power is formidable, and he has a stubborn motor through contact. Once he erodes his opponent’s balance, he can pry through reps with swipes, chops, clubs, and inside swims.

“Braswell’s projection as a bend and finesse rusher is less clear, and that’s the biggest hang-up regarding his stock. There are exciting glimpses of ankle flexion and surface area reduction on tape, but by and large, his hip stiffness prevents him from rolling through the apex on a consistent basis.

“Nevertheless, Braswell has a high functional floor, with the explosiveness, functional power components, and active hands to stay disruptive at the NFL level. And on top of that foundation, he’s a strong, high-IQ run defender and an able cover man in the flats.”
