Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy took a parting shot at the Buffalo Bills’ front office after the AFC Championship Game. He nailed the Bills for passing on him and trading their pick to the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL Draft. Kansas City used the pick on Worthy, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Xavier Worthy Throws Shade at Buffalo Bills After Big Win
Worthy was asked after the game if he had any extra motivation to turn back Buffalo, and he responded in the affirmative.
“They skipped on me,” Worthy said. “That’s their loss.”

Worthy thought there was a good chance he was going to Buffalo. After all, the Bills had lost all of their receivers either through trade or free agency, and quarterback Josh Allen needed new weapons in his arsenal.
Yet, instead of drafting Worthy — who formed quite the tandem with Adonai Mitchell at the University of Texas — Buffalo traded its first-round pick to the team that seems to always have their number in the playoffs.
The Chiefs stepped up and added more speed to their depth chart by drafting Worthy.
The Bills would end up taking former Florida State Seminoles wide receiver Keon Coleman in the second round, who, despite missing four weeks with a wrist injury, still had a good season. Coleman finished the regular season with 29 receptions for 556 yards and scored four touchdowns.
The Bills also traded for WR Amari Cooper during the season.
Nevertheless, with 59 receptions, 638 receiving yards, and six touchdowns, Worthy statistically and performatively had the better season.
Before the game, Worthy said the game meant more to him than perhaps the rest of his Chiefs’ teammates.
“I mean, I take it as a blessing, and I feel like it’s a sign that they didn’t want me,” Worthy said. “At the end of the day, I’m going to play with my chip on my shoulder. This game means a little bit more. Obviously, it’s the AFC Championship Game, but this is a team that traded their pick away to get somebody else.
“I feel like I just kept stacking every game,” Worthy detailed. “All the vets like Pat (Patrick Mahomes), Trav (Travis Kelce), D-Hop (DeAndre Hopkins), JuJu (Smith-Schuster); I mean, having guys like that makes it real easy just to give you insight on the game and just learning from them and keep taking tools from them.
“I mean, I can’t appreciate it enough, just learning from D-Hop — as D-Hop says, I’m kind of like the little brother, so just getting knowledge from them is going to keep expanding my game.”
Worthy said he constantly talks with older veterans like tight end Travis Kelce to gain better insight into the professional game and will take advice from anyone qualified to give it.
“Having the insight from the older guys and just understanding — talking to Trav all the time, he has the best connection with Pat, probably the best connection in the league,” Worthy said. “Just having a feel for what Trav likes and Pat likes, just playing off of them, makes it real easy.”
