Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a photographer at a Dallas nightclub early Monday morning, according to WFAA.
Authorities were called to a nightclub around 2:30 a.m. after reports of an assault. A man with swelling on one side of his face but no life-threatening injuries was taken to a hospital, per the Dallas Morning News.
Officials told the DMN that Rice is a suspect in the case. However, Rice has not been charged or arrested as of Tuesday. Rice’s lawyer declined to comment when contacted by the News.
Rice is already facing eight felony counts after causing a high-speed, hit-and-run car crash in April. The charges include six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault. Rice turned himself into the police on April 11.
Multiple reports have suggested the NFL is expected to hand Rice a muti-game suspension for the 2024 season. The league could impose even stiffer punishment against the Chiefs wide receiver if he’s found to have been involved in another off-field incident.
Rice, a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, led the Chiefs with seven touchdown catches and finished second to Travis Kelce in receptions (79) and receiving yards (938) in his rookie season.
Rice did not show up for the beginning of Kansas City’s offseason program but is virtually participating in meetings.
