Get ready to see plenty of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024, America. The back-to-back Super Bowl champions have plenty to play for next season, and the NFL has plenty of reasons to get Patrick Mahomes and Co. on our televisions.
As part of the league’s schedule release, the NFL handed the Chiefs five prime-time games and eight stand-alone games in 2024.
Chiefs Have 8 Stand-alone Games on 2024 NFL Schedule
The reigning Super Bowl champion always hosts the NFL season opener, so we already knew the Chiefs would play on Thursday night in Week 1. The league announced earlier this week that K.C. will face the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC title game rematch to kick off the 2024 campaign.
However, that won’t be the only stand-alone game featuring Kansas City next year. Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Andy Reid will have seven other matchups under the lights in 2024:
- Week 1: vs. Baltimore Ravens (Thursday night season opener)
- Week 3: at Atlanta Falcons (SNF)
- Week 5: vs. New Orleans Saints (MNF)
- Week 9: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (MNF)
- Week 13: vs. Las Vegas Raiders (Black Friday)
- Week 14: vs. Los Angeles Chargers (SNF)
- Week 16: vs. Houston Texans (Saturday)
- Week 17: at Pittsburgh Steelers (Christmas)
K.C. initially received six prime-time matchups in 2023, including the season opener against the Detroit Lions. However, the Chiefs’ Week 15 Monday Night Football game against the New England Patriots was eventually flexed to 1 p.m. ET in favor of a more competitive Philadelphia Eagles-Seattle Seahawks contest.
Kansas City went 2-3 in prime time last season, defeating the New York Jets and Denver Broncos while losing to the Lions, Eagles, and Green Bay Packers. The Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins in a Week 9 stand-alone game in Frankfurt, Germany.
Potential 3-Peat, Taylor Swift Effect Driving Chiefs Schedule
The Chiefs became the ninth NFL team to win consecutive Super Bowls when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58. They were the first club in nearly two decades to capture back-to-back trophies.
However, no NFL franchise has ever won three straight Lombardis.
Mahomes, Kelce, and Reid are already ticketed for the Hall of Fame, but Kansas City could become one of the league’s greatest dynasties by hoisting another Super Bowl trophy next February.
A chance at NFL history would be enough to land the Chiefs a bevy of prime-time games. But that’s not the only reason Kansas City will be on our screens so much in 2024. The Taylor Swift Effect is real in the NFL. Her relationship with Kelce helped drive football viewership among women and girls, leading to a 400% spike in jersey sales for the Chiefs tight end.
Swift is the most dominant force in pop culture. The Eras Tour, which affected the NFL’s scheduling process, will continue until Dec. 2024. Swift’s most recent album, April’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” became the first album to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams in a single week.
Even if Swift doesn’t attend every Chiefs prime-time game, her association with the franchise will increase viewership — and the NFL has noticed.
