Chiefs Superstar Travis Kelce Gets Candid in Locker Room After Brutal Super Bowl 59 Loss to Eagles

Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce gave credit where credit was due after the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59.

Kelce said the Chiefs got whipped and that the Eagles deserved to win the game. He also said the team lacked a spark on offense, which could not get on track until the game was already out of hand.

Travis Kelce Said Chiefs Lacked a Spark on Offense in Super Bowl 59 Loss to Eagles

While speaking to the press from his locker after the Super Bowl 59 loss, the tight end praised the Eagles, who he said were better than the Chiefs in all “three phases” of the game. Offensively, defensively, and on special teams, the Eagles were far superior.

“[We] couldn’t get it going offensively,” Kelce, 35, told reporters in the locker room after the game. “I mean they just got after us on all three phases and then on top of that, you know, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense.”

Kelce said the dropped passes were uncharacteristic of a team that won 15 games during the regular season. He said the intent was there, but the execution was missing.

“We haven’t played that bad all year,” he said. “You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”

Kelce said he was proud of his team for the way they never gave up, despite getting shut out in the first half. He said his team kept fighting and scratching and trying to claw back into the game, but it just was not meant to be.

“This team is gonna fight ’til the end forever and you saw that,” he said. “Even with the score late, we were always gonna fight.”

If the Chiefs came back in the second half and won the game, it would have been the largest come-from-behind win in Super Bowl history. They also would have made NFL history repeating as champions for a third straight year. It would have been a Herculean task to accomplish all of that in the final 30 minutes of the game.

Instead, Kelce and his teammates are left picking up the pieces after not only a rare loss, but a big-stage blowout.

“We just couldn’t find that spark,” Kelce said. “We couldn’t find that momentum.”
