When you’re Patrick Mahomes, you have the world at your feet. However, multiple Super Bowl rings and several accolades later, the Kansas City Chiefs still have one regret.
The quarterback highlighted one night in the gridiron that still haunts him to this day. This game could also be considered Mahomes’ obstacle to claiming GOAT status.
1 Game That Still Gives Patrick Mahomes Nightmares
Mahomes is all set to show off his talents at the biggest of stages in New Orleans as he and the Chiefs contest Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles. During a press conference ahead of the big game, though, the Kansas City QB revealed one game from four years ago that still brings tremors to his body.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes asked if there’s a loss that keeps him up at night: “The Super Bowl vs. Tampa. Pretty easy.”

“Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes asked if there’s a loss that keeps him up at night: ‘The Super Bowl vs. Tampa. Pretty easy,’” NFL reporter Albert Breer posted on X.
This game could’ve been a true passing of the torch moment. However, Tom Brady had different plans.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Chiefs 31-9, with Mahomes having one of the worst outings of his tremendous career. This game was the second and the last time that Brady and Mahomes met in the playoffs, with the younger Mahomes unable to defeat the GOAT.
In the game, Mahomes completed 26 of 49 passes for 270 yards and zero touchdowns. He was also intercepted twice.
Mahomes Doesn’t Mind the Villain Tag
The Chiefs are set to achieve historical status on their quest for a three-peat. However, this has led to them being hated by almost every corner of the NFL world. While talking to the media, Mahomes clarified his stance on the subject.
“If winning football games makes you a villain, we’re going to keep going out there and doing it,” Mahomes said. “We embrace who we are. We believe we play the game the right way, with a lot of heart and passion for the game.”
The Chiefs and the Eagles will face off at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 9, with kickoff scheduled at 6:30 p.m. ET.
