A 15-2 season coming off back-to-back Super Bowl wins ended in heartbreaking disappointment for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they were dominated by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. While the offensive line took most of the blame, the offense shared some of the responsibility.
Throughout the year, the team performed well but never took that explosive next step. Injuries played a role, but upgrading the wide receiver room is becoming more necessary. One analyst believes help is on the way through the 2025 NFL Draft.

Kansas City Chiefs Predicted to Upgrade Wide Receiver Room
Losing Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice for most of the season was a major blow to Kansas City’s offense. It forced rookie Xavier Worthy into a WR1 role and put more pressure on Travis Kelce than the Chiefs likely planned.
No wide receiver topped 700 receiving yards. Instead, Kelce led the team with 823 yards. With both Worthy and Rice set to return next season, adding another receiver could help the offense get back on track.
The latest mock draft from PFSN projects them to do just that. With their second-round pick (63rd overall), Kansas City is predicted to select Tre Harris from Ole Miss. Analyst Ian Cummings is optimistic about Harris’ fit with the team.
“The Chiefs need an alpha-type receiver to pair with Rashee Rice’s RAC dynamism and Xavier Worthy’s speed. Tre Harris has the physicality and catch-point instincts they desire.” For the Rebels, Harris became a key playmaker over the last three years.
Recording over 900 yards and seven or more touchdowns in each of the last three seasons, his yards-per-reception averages of 18.2 and 17.2 in consecutive years make him a big-play threat for Patrick Mahomes.
A consistent red-zone weapon, Harris scored 29 touchdowns in his college career. With Hollywood Brown reportedly returning, adding another top-tier pass catcher could set the Chiefs up for years to come.
The offense hasn’t looked like the high-powered unit fans were used to in back-to-back seasons. After a rough 2023, they didn’t fare much better last season, finishing 12th in PFSN’s Offense+ metric. The departure of Tyreek Hill is arguably the most notable reason for this fall off. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to have a receiver who has eclipsed the 1700 yard mark in 2 of his first 3 seasons in Miami.
A major priority will be improving the offensive line after the Eagles dominated them in the Super Bowl. But beyond that, there aren’t many changes the Chiefs need to make to contend for another title.
