The NFL experience has seen its fair share of highs and lows for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney. From being a game-breaker making plays in last year’s Super Bowl, to then being offsides in a loss and being inactive in playoff games this year.
No matter what has happened throughout his young career, it seems as if Toney is unwavering in the belief he has for himself. Despite some of the outside noise surrounding the WR, Toney still believes he can be the guy in Kansas City.
Kadarius Toney Believes He’s a No. 1 WR
Toney was flat-out asked if he believes he’s a No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. Without hesitation, Toney made his answer clear while also offering a bit of a challenge of sorts.
“Yeah, if I get the ball,” Toney said. This comes off the heels of a season in which he has made some mental mistakes, dropped passes, and seems unpleased with his situation in Kansas City.
The Chiefs have been looking to find consistency at the WR position all season and have struggled to do so for most of it. Rookie WR Rashee Rice has stepped up and looks to clearly be Patrick Mahomes’ favorite choice as the season has gone on, but Toney believes it’s him to be a WR1.
Toney has a chance to prove that he belongs in that category, but he’ll need to show it on the field first before others will be willing to concur.
Toney Refutes Reports Surrounding Viral Rant
It remains to be seen what Toney’s status for the Super Bowl will be after being inactive last week with an injury and a described “personal reasons” situation. A situation that saw his Instagram account go live where he was allegedly heard saying an NFSW rant voicing his displeasure in how he’s being handled by the Kansas City decision-makers.
The Instagram live was a black screen with Toney presumably talking about his current standing with the Chiefs. However, Toney spoke with the media and said he wasn’t talking about the Chiefs at all and the rant was aimed at his former team, the New York Giants.

Toney can be heard saying, “I’m not hurt, none of that. Hip, knee, nuh-uh,” before Toney said on Monday night that it was the Giants he was speaking about.
“It kinda started that in the process of that, I guess it got interrupted,” Toney said on the video. “So, it got a mixed message I guess you could say then a lot of footage got chopped up and released. So, it made it like I was attacking the one [Chiefs] I love the most.
“I’d never attack the Chiefs, never say anything about the Chiefs. Who I was referring to was the Giants fans, people in my comments. I was referring to them, which I shouldn’t have,” he finished.
Despite Toney’s attempt at clearing up the situation, there seems to still be a bit of confusion on how it all unfolded.
Either way, the Chiefs are set to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the biggest game of the year. They may need Toney in this one, so fewer distractions and more production will be the hope going forward.
