In a bizarre 24 hours for DeAndre Hopkins, the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver took to social media to address his NFL future after rumors circled that he planned on retiring.

Just hours after a heartbreaking loss in his first Super Bowl appearance, speculation began to circle Hopkins’ next move, with free agency looming for the veteran.
That speculation was further fueled when rookie receiver Xavier Worthy spoke to reporters and revealed that a number of his teammates were unlikely to be joining him in Kansas City in 2025.
“I would just like to thank the guys in my room. This might be my last time playing with them. Some of them, [it] might be their last game. Trades happen. These guys really helped me out a lot, just on my development as a man and as a player in this league.
“This knowledge they gave me to learn and keep building my rookie year, I just really appreciate them for that… I have to give the credit to the guys in this room, even Trav [Travis Kelce] and Pat [Patrick Mahomes],” he said.

It’s unclear exactly who Worthy was referring to, and it’s unlikely that the rookie would have been given too much information about the team’s offseason plans. But players talk to each other, and it’s very possible that Worthy heard some things directly from teammates.
Travis Kelce is another Chiefs player who could potentially retire this offseason, so it’s possible that this revelation had nothing to do with Hopkins at all.
Hopkins Says He’s ‘Not Done Yet’
Hopkins himself seems to have no interest in hanging up his cleats just yet. After word spread online that head coach Andy Reid had let slip his plans to retire, Hopkins responded.
The rumor appeared to have been reported by trusted NFL insider Adam Schefter, but under further inspection, the account responsible for the supposed news was fake. Yet, in a since-deleted post, Hopkins appears to have more football in his future.
Taking to his own account, Hopkins posted a 10-word statement signaling his plans to continue playing in the NFL.
“Don’t know what you heard but I’m not done yet.”

The post was likely deleted after Hopkins learned of the fake account. Nevertheless, it would seem that we’ve not seen the last of Hopkins in the NFL. With free agency looming, though, it remains to be seen what colors he’ll be wearing in 2025.
Since being drafted No. 27 overall in 2013 by the Houston Texans, Hopkins has amassed 12,965 regular-season receiving yards, putting him 21st in the all-time NFL rankings.
