It has been a long road to the Super Bowl for one of the newest members of the Kansas City Chiefs, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Since entering the NFL in 2013, Hopkins has been one of the most consistent playmakers out wide, missing just a season’s worth of games across 12 campaigns.
Additionally, his statistics have matched his dependability, generating seven 1,000-yard seasons. However, postseason success has eluded him, until now. With just three previous trips to the playoffs and none to the Super Bowl, the weekend in New Orleans is doubly special to him, and he has a heartwarming outfit in mind for the occasion.
DeAndre Hopkins Reveals Connection to Late Father Ahead of Super Bowl
When coming out for media night ahead of Super Bowl LIX, Hopkins was honest about his journey in the NFL. During his entire run, while he found individual success, team success wasn’t as accessible, largely due to struggles under center. Now, he has the NFL’s best looking his way, helping him reach new heights.
“My dad died in 1992, and he, uh, he left me a couple of things and one of the things that he left me was a mink jacket,” Hopkins said. “And so, I always said I would wear that mink jacket to my wedding and to the Super Bowl, whichever one happened first.
“Obviously, I’m not married so I’m gonna wear my daddy’s mink jacket, dawg.” The emotion was clear on his face as he spoke about what the moment meant to him.
Certainly, since coming over by way of a midseason trade, Hopkins has given the Chiefs offense a jolt in their step. He’s added 437 yards and four touchdowns in just 10 games while getting acclimated to a new team and system. With his help, Kansas City ranked 12th in PFN’s Offense+ metric.
DeAndre Hopkins got emotional when asked about his outfit on Sunday.

His emotions carried over to social media as well, where he shared a heartfelt message to younger kids aiming high.
To all the kids out there living in small towns, in small houses, with single parents. To the kids who see violence, who see loss, who don’t get the resources they deserve, but who still have big dreams. Know that I was a kid in your exact shoes and this week I’m playing in the…

“To all the kids out there living in small towns, in small houses, with single parents. To the kids who see violence, who see loss, who don’t get the resources they deserve, but who still have big dreams. Know that I was a kid in your exact shoes, and this week, I’m playing in the Super Bowl. Don’t give up, work hard, keep believing. Where you start doesn’t determine where you end up.”
So far, he’s been very quiet this postseason with just one reception for 11 yards across two games. If the Chiefs are going to make a run against the Philadelphia Eagles who have the second-best defense in the league, according to PFN’s Defense+ metric, they will need Hopkins to turn back the clock and deliver one more elite performance.
With a special outfit in mind, perhaps a special performance is on the way for him as well.
