Chase Claypool Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

Coming off a dismal season, what does Chase Claypool's future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues going forward?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the dynasty rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty value of Chase Claypool.

Chase Claypool’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Claypool in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He had an awesome rookie season, catching 62 passes for 873 yards and nine touchdowns. He then spent the next 1.5 years in the NFL proving he’s nothing more than a rotational WR3/4.

Yet, somehow, the Steelers were able to get plus value on a depreciating asset. Make it make sense.

When the Bears traded a second-round pick for Claypool in the middle of the 2022 season, the presumption was he would immediately take over as their WR2. After seeing the season play out, I can’t figure out why they traded anything for him at all, let alone a very valuable early Day 2 pick.

We’ve seen plenty of wide receivers (and tight ends) get traded midseason and make an immediate impact with their new team. Yet, Claypool needed time to learn the playbook, which, apparently, he hadn’t learned sufficiently after over a month with the team.

With the Bears, Claypool averaged a sub-50% snap share. He couldn’t beat out guys like Equanimeous St. Brown and Dante Pettis for playing time. In Chicago, Claypool never reached 20 routes run in a single game. This includes the five games after Darnell Mooney went on IR.

Claypool averaged 7.0 ppg in 2022. Most of that came from Pittsburgh. With the Bears, he averaged just 3.8 ppg.

    Chase Claypool’s Fantasy Ranking

I’m done with Claypool. I have no interest in him in any fantasy format. The Bears’ acquisition of DJ Moore now pushes Claypool even further down the depth chart.

If you find yourself with him on your roster, feel free to trade him away for whatever you can get. Always try and maximize value, but the reality is anything you get will be worth more than Claypool after the 2023 season.

We currently have him at WR56 (No. 149 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. For me, that’s a bit high. I truly would look to give away Claypool for anything I could get. He is not someone I’d take anywhere in dynasty startup drafts.
