The Los Angeles Chargers had a terrific season marred by a devastating postseason defeat. After making their second playoff appearance with Justin Herbert and their first under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles was dominated by the Houston Texans, losing 32-12. Herbert had perhaps the worst game of his career, and a below-average Chargers offense paid the price.
While rookie receiver Ladd McConkey was impressive for the Chragers in 2024, registering 1,149 receiving yards, Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer had middling seasons. Thus, Los Angeles is now being predicted to add one of the fastest receivers in the league.

Los Angeles Chargers Predicted Justin Herbert a True WR1 in Tyreek Hill
Throughout the year, Harbaugh maintained a dedicated ground game, trying to diversify the Chargers’ offense. It led to one of the least productive seasons of Herbert’s career, as he finished 14th by PFN’s QB+ metric.
However, the situation got way worse in the playoffs. Without a true threat beyond McConkey, the offense sputtered, and Herbert coughed up four interceptions en route to a career-worst passer rating of 40.9.
Now, Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer predicts in his bold offseason predictions piece that the Chargers will look to acquire Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill to bolster their offense, which ranked 17th in PFSN’s Offense+ metric last season.
“Hill and the Dolphins have been wishy-washy on whether they want to keep working together. It’s becoming more evident Miami has gone from contender to a team far removed from making a championship run. Hill will turn 31 on March 1 and has precious little time to go after a second ring to match his one in Kansas City.
“Why not go bug the Chiefs with a little chip on his shoulder, trying to make big plays in the AFC West for Justin Herbert and the Chargers instead? Hill would thrive with Herbert’s big arm playing off promising second-year slot Ladd McConkey.”
Hill sparked trade speculation after the Dolphins failed to reach the postseason, telling the media he wanted out. However, Hill and his camp have reflected since that statement and have made it known that he wants to stay in Miami as long as it bolsters the roster.
Despite the off-field drama, Hill is widely regarded as a top receiving threat in the NFL. His pure, off-the-line speed is something few other receivers can match. By posing a threat out of structure, Herbert could pull defensive players down from the secondary, allowing Hill to score the 50+ yard touchdowns he so often did in his prime.

However, Hill had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024. While he led the Dolphins in receiving, he only finished with 959 yards in 17 games. It was his first season with fewer than 1,000 yards since 2019. In fact, it was his first under 1,200 yards in that span, which included surpassing 1,700 the previous two seasons, his first two in Miami.
While Hill seems to be happy to stay with the Dolphins for now, a trade to the Chargers — or any team for that matter — can’t be ruled out. If Los Angeles manages to acquire him, it would have a deadly receiving duo in Hill and McConkey.
