The NFL could see history in Super Bowl 59 with a Kansas City Chiefs victory. The Chiefs could become the first NFL team to win three championships in a row during the Super Bowl era.
But Kansas City won’t have a fan in Los Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker.

Chargers’ Cameron Dicker Rooting for Eagles ‘All Day Long’
During the NFL Honors Red Carpet on Thursday, Feb. 6, Dicker suggested in a conversation with PFSN that there isn’t a scenario where he would root for his AFC West rival.
“No chance I want the Chiefs to win,” said Dicker. “We’re going with the Eagles all day long.”
Dicker has only spent two and a half seasons with the Chargers, but that’s apparently enough time for him to develop a strong dislike for the Chiefs.
It’s not hard to see why. With Dicker on their roster, the Chargers have gone 0-5 versus the Chiefs. Los Angeles hasn’t beaten Kansas City during that stretch despite Dicker making nine of 10 field goals and all eight of his extra points.
Four of those five contests, including the past three games, were one-score finishes.
Winning close affairs has become a Chiefs trademark. Kansas City has won 17 straight one-score games dating back to last season. In 2024, the Chiefs went 12-0 in one-possession matchups, which set a new NFL record.
Over the past three regular seasons, the Chiefs are also 15-3 versus the AFC West. Two of those losses came on the road against the Denver Broncos.
Chiefs Dominating Series With Chargers
Kansas City’s dominance of the Chargers dates back to the last few years when the franchise was still playing in San Diego.
The Chargers are 3-19 versus the Chiefs over the past 11 seasons. And since Patrick Mahomes became the team’s starting quarterback, Kansas City is 11-3 against LA. In fact, Los Angeles last defeated Mahomes and the Chiefs in September 2021.
Although Dicker wasn’t with the Chargers during that time, he plays with teammates who were. Thus, it wouldn’t be surprising if that has added to his dislike of the Chiefs.
Whether or not the Chiefs win their third straight Super Bowl, Dicker will get two more shots against Kansas City next season. But with those two matchups, the Chiefs could make additional history.
If Kansas City defeats Los Angeles twice during the 2025 NFL season, the Chiefs will tie their franchise record for most consecutive victories versus San Diego/Los Angeles.
To end that long losing streak, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will likely have to finally outplay Mahomes.
For the 2024 season overall, Herbert finished 14th in PFN’s QB+ metric, while Mahomes finished 10th.
Herbert had a particularly disappointing ending to the season in the AFC Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans.
“After being so careful with the ball in the regular season, Herbert was almost careless at times in the Los Angeles Chargers’ Wild Card loss. Not all of the four interceptions were entirely his fault, but Herbert must take the blame for at least two and arguably three,” wrote PFSN’s Ben Rolfe.
Herbert is 2-7 in his career versus the Chiefs. Meanwhile, Mahomes is 35-5 all-time against the AFC West.
