Coach Prime’s son and the Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders will not participate in the NFL Combine workouts at Lucas Oil Stadium from February 27 to March 2. He made the announcement last week and mentioned that he will focus on team meetings and interviews during the event.
This decision quickly spread like wildfire, with experts dropping their reactions. Some criticized his move because Combine happens to give athletes an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of Scouts, and Sanders was not utilizing it well. However, former NFL star Chad Johnson resorted to extending his support, claiming that it was not necessary for Shedeur to throw at the Combine.

Chad Johnson Gets Real About Shedeur Sanders’ Skill Sets
The Colorado QB has been a standout prospect of the 2025 class due to his leadership and dominance at college. Not just his throwing ability, the 22-year-old was pivotal in transforming the Buffs program into a new powerhouse of the Big 12. He racked up 4,134 passing yards and scored 37 touchdowns while only conceding 10 interceptions.
While speaking to Shannon Sharpe during the latest episode of NightCap, Chad Johnson spoke about Sanders’ decision to skip Combine workouts. He was fine with it and mentioned that for scouts to want to watch Shedeur throw, they need to take a flight to Colorado’s Pro Day event in March.
“I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t have a problem with that at all, and not at all,” Johnson mentioned.
“Listen, there’s enough film out there on Shedeur Sanders. We know he can throw the ball. There’s no need to throw in front of the scouts. Throw where it’s most important. If the scouts want to see you throw, look at the film. Turn it on. You have a lot of film from Jackson State to Colorado, the high school. We know what he can do. We know he can do with his arm. We’ve seen him do it before.
“Pro Day is where it’s gonna be nice. Y’all come out here. You want to see me throw; come on out here to the Pro Day. No need, no no need to throw it there. Certain people have to put their presentation on, as far as throwing and what they can do as far agility-wise, at the court of acquisition. I mean, at the combine, Shedeur is not one of them.
“Have you seen the training session of him and Cam Ward? They are hilarious. They are. They remember the movie, uh, two old rugby men or something like that, yeah, yeah, that’s they remind me of them too. I don’t know why it is really funny. That’s good content between them, too,” he added in conversation with Sharpe.
