The Dallas Cowboys franchise is a storied one. So when records fall, people take notice. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s dynasty fantasy football value is a hot topic these days. After setting team records for catches and receiving yards in a season, could Lamb be the game’s most valuable asset?
- 2020: 74 catches for 935 yards and 5 TDs
- 2021: 79 catches for 1,102 yards and 6 TDs
- 2022: 107 catches for 1,359 yards and 9 TDs
- 2023: 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 TDs
To properly gauge the value of Dallas’ star, you must weigh Lamb’s projected growth, situation, and expectations both in the short and long term against the rest of the position.
CeeDee Lamb’s Dynasty Outlook
What is it that you want from an elite dynasty option? What is it that you want from a building block that can help you compete today, tomorrow, and for years to come?
- Position: WR
- Age: Under 30
- Skill set: Versatile
- Availability: Durable
- Volume: Reliable
- QB play: Consistent
Lamb checks every one of those boxes and checks them rather easily. As the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Dallas’ WR1 has developed at an exponential rate through four seasons and is very much in the conversation for the 1.01 pick in startup dynasty formats.
#DallasCowboys WR CeeDee Lamb has 29 receptions of 20+ yards this season — most among #NFL WRs. 🔥
Is Lamb ELITE? 👀
— Pro Football Network (@PFN365) January 3, 2024
In 2023, a year following his first 100+ catch season that featured as many touchdown receptions as he had in his first two years combined, Lamb excelled. Defenses knew he was the primary option, and what did he do?
When comparing 2023 to 2022:
- Catch Rate: Up 6%
- Yards Per Catch: Up 2.4%
- Yards Per Catch After Reception: Up 13%
- TD Rate: Up 13.8%
Selling you on Lamb as an elite option is easy, and so is his non-statistical profile. He’s missed one game in his career, is tethered to a QB coming off of a career year, and doesn’t have a teammate who is an immediate threat to take food off of his plate.

Lamb caught 26 of 30 targets for 325 yards and three scores in the final two weeks of the 2023 regular season as the Cowboys stole the NFC East title from the Philadelphia Eagles.
I can give you all of the advanced numbers you want, but at the end of the day, how Dallas ran their offense in big spots tells you all you need to know…Lamb is their guy. The Cowboys ran their offense through him last season, cut loose their starting running back this offseason, and have yet to add a target-earning secondary receiver.
Don’t take my word for it. The man who signs his checks was more than happy to gush over his ace receiver in January:
“He is everything that I thought he would be. He has certainly met the mark of everything that we thought he could be when we drafted him, and I think he’s just getting started,” said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
What makes Lamb difficult to acquire is the fact that he fits into any roster construction. If a team is tanking, he can be their building block for the future. If a team is poised to chase a title this season, he’s a threat to lead all non-QBs in fantasy scoring.
Trading for Lamb isn’t going to be easy. That said, I’m not sure you can overpay, given his combination of production and trajectory. I prefer him to any non-wide receiver in dynasty leagues, and that’s without much of a doubt.
If I was trying to build a two-for-Lamb sort of deal, I’d be looking at one of two avenues:
- Young WR with a high future draft pick
- Young WR with a big-name WR
Tank Dell, Drake London, and Jayden Reed are among the young receivers that I’d try to tempt the Lamb manager with. Are they great? They have the potential to be, but thinking that any of them approaches Lamb’s production projection is optimistic.
By including future draft picks, you’re selling hope to a manager who otherwise might lack it. On the veteran receiver side of things, maybe Mike Evans or Amari Cooper coming off a big season is of interest to a team positioned to win this season.
Maybe a manager is higher than you over the next few seasons on Stefon Diggs or DJ Moore. A player like Lamb isn’t going to come at a discount, that much we know. But almost any player can be had at the right price … what do you have to lose by testing the market?
In doing so, however, make sure not to offend the other manager. Take a look at their needs, open up the conversation, and piece together a respectable offer.
Trades in dynasties are a case-by-case scenario. Savvy managers get a feel for how their opponents think and leverage that knowledge to build a dynastic team — something that Lamb gives you a nice start at doing!
