Dallas Cowboys News: CB Stephon Gilmore To Undergo Offseason Surgery

Here's the latest update on Dallas Cowboys CB Stephon Gilmore as he will undergo offseason surgery for a shoulder injury he suffered during the season.

Dallas Cowboys CB Stephon Gilmore plans to undergo offseason surgery.

The Latest Update on Stephon Gilmore

According to a report from the Dallas Morning News, Gilmore will have surgery this week for a right labrum tear.

The cornerback suffered the tear during the team’s last regular-season game against the Commanders.

He was prepared to play through the tear if the Cowboys had advanced further into the playoffs, but that won’t be an issue now.

Gilmore played through the injury on Sunday and wore a protective harness during the contest.

After the Cowboys’ deflating Wild Card Round loss to the Packers, Gilmore spoke to the media, saying the defense couldn’t get into a rhythm during the game.

He said he didn’t expect the outcome to be what it was.

“I’m surprised. I didn’t see this coming. So, I’m very surprised because I know what type of team we have. But in the playoffs, you have to prove it, and you can’t have any down days. That’s how the game goes,” said Gilmore.

    Gilmore’s Immediate Impact

It is up in the air if Gilmore will return to the Cowboys next season, as he is now a free agent. The Cowboys acquired Gilmore from a trade with the Colts last March. He has played 12 NFL seasons, and the Cowboys became his fourth team in the last four years.

Gilmore immediately impacted the Cowboys’ secondary, especially after Trevon Diggs was done for the season with a torn ACL he suffered in practice last September.

The veteran cornerback made an immediate impact not only on the field but also as a locker-room leader.

Although it would be ideal for the Cowboys to keep Gilmore on lock for future seasons, they have a long list of pending free agents and contract extensions to scrub through this offseason.
