‘Trade Kyler Murray’ – Cardinals Fans Want Franchise To Move On From $230,500,000 QB After 13–9 Loss to Rams

    Published on

Arizona Cardinals fans on social media called for Kyler Murray to be traded after the team’s Week 17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals have fallen off a cliff after a 6-4 start to the season. They’ve lost five of their last six games, with the latest being a Week 17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cardinals lost 13-9 in a game in which Murray twice had the opportunity to give his team the lead. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old quarterback threw interceptions on both drives and helped the Rams get closer to the NFC West division title.

Cardinals Fans Call Out Kyler Murray After Loss vs. Rams

Cardinals fans on social media were quite upset with how Murray played against the Rams and his recent play overall. He’s thrown eight interceptions in his last eight games, and Arizona is now guaranteed to finish another season under .500.

Some fans are asking the franchise to trade Murray because he isn’t performing according to his contract. The former No. 1 overall pick signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension in 2022 but has continuously underperformed since then.

“It’s time we have a conversation about the Cardinals moving on from Kyler Murray before his trade value plummets,” said a fan.

Another fan added, “Kyler Murray is a mid QB. I’d trade him in a second.”

One fan wrote, “The Arizona Cardinals need to trade Kyler Murray.”

“Kyler Murray is trash. Get him out,” added another fan.

Murray had his best season in 2021, after which he suffered an ACL injury and hasn’t looked the same. The big contract extension came at the right time for him, but the team hasn’t benefited.

Jonathan Gannon is in his second season as the Cardinals’ head coach. He is 11-22, but the roster’s lack of talent, especially on the defensive side, can be blamed significantly for his poor record. Still, offensively, Arizona has good players like Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride, and James Conner, but until Murray gets better, the team won’t win games.

Murray’s second interception in Week 17, which sealed the game for the Rams, bounced off McBride’s helmet, yet the quarterback had better options available. His lack of chemistry with Harrison is also a big concern, and the fans have started giving up on the quarterback as a result.

Next Year Will Be Critical for Murray’s NFL Future

Murray still has three years left on his contract, but next season could determine whether he’ll remain as the Cardinals’ quarterback for the future. The Oklahoma product is 35-45-1 as an NFL quarterback, with just one playoff appearance to his name.

He was the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and although he’s not considered a pure “bust,” based on expectations, Murray has seriously underperformed. In 16 games this season, he’s thrown for 3,609 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, with a completion percentage of 68.6% and a passer rating of 91.1.

Murray’s ability to extend plays is remarkable and his completion percentage remains within the top 10 this season, but for Arizona to contend, he has to be much more consistent.

Arizona has an important offseason ahead, and the NFC West team has to improve its roster via free agency and the draft. Next season is critical not only for Murray but also for Gannon — if the Cardinals fail to make the playoffs, the franchise might look to move on from both of them and start fresh.
