NFL Insider Wonders if Giants Can Land $79.3 Million QB-WR Duo: ‘What Are the Odds They Both Land in New York?’

The New York Giants could take a swing for the fences and land an immediate QB-WR duo to pair with Malik Nabers and become a playoff team.

It has been a heartbreaking season for the New York Giants.

After choosing Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley, not only did the Giants cut Jones from the roster, but they also had to watch Barkley join a division rival and win the Super Bowl while setting the all-time rushing record in a single season.

With no legitimate quarterback in sight, it might be time for a hard rebuild in New York. However, one NFL insider believes that the Giants could choose to go a different route and build a playoff-caliber team immediately.

Will the New York Giants Take an Almighty Swing?

The Los Angeles Rams are in a rather perplexing position. While they are consistently in playoff discussions, the loss of Aaron Donald and the health of an aging roster is pushing them further away from the Super Bowl every season.

As a result, Cooper Kupp is officially being shopped, and rumors about a split with Matthew Stafford continue to linger. With both names potentially on the move, The Athletic’s Jacob Robinson and Dianna Russini believe both players could find a home in New York.

“[The Rams] could look drastically different. They are actively looking to trade Kupp, who turns 32 in June. The former Super Bowl MVP’s injuries have caught up with him, and it’s unlikely the Rams consider him worth his $29.7 million cap hit. Kupp could be moved before his $7.5 million roster bonus on March 19.”

Similarly, a 37-year-old quarterback might not be in the plan for the typically high-flying Rams.

“As for Stafford, the Rams front office has refused to commit to him publicly as their starter in 2025, but the 37-year-old can still rip it. So what are the odds they both land in New York?”

While it might seem unlikely, one tiny connection might be all the credence this potential scenario needs, thanks to NFL reporter Adam Schefter.

“The internet was abuzz after Adam Schefter reported the Giants hired Stafford’s brother-in-law as their assistant quarterbacks coach, though it feels unlikely to me that Sean McVay lets Stafford leave L.A.”

Last season, despite all their limitations and the injuries to Kupp and Puka Nacua, the Rams’ offense finished 11th in the league, according to PFN’s Offense+ metric.

Some of that had to do with the electric running ability of Kyren Williams. But, the contributions of Stafford and Kupp are hard to overlook. In comparison, the Giants had the second-worst offense despite Malik Nabers’ mind-blowing rookie season.

With Nabers already a perfect WR1, Kupp could thrive as the WR2, and the Stafford-Kupp duo could create similar magic with the Giants as they did in Los Angeles.

For a team based out of New York, it might make sense to take a big swing while also building out a roster to plug in a rookie sensation at quarterback in the near future.
