Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders Exchange Trash Talk During Workout Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward exchanged some intense trash talk during a pre-draft workout ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, there is a constant debate in the NFL world about who is the better quarterback: Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders or Miami Hurricanes star Cam Ward.

While many analysts have been taking sides over the past month, the two stars are also now arguing over who is a better quarterback and recently talked trash to one another during a workout.

Cam Ward Trash Talks Sheduer Sanders Over Pass Completion Percentage

Ward and Sanders were spotted training together at UNLV Football. In a behind-the-scenes video, the Hurricanes quarterback took shots at his counterpart’s pass completion percentage, 77.4%.

Sanders actually set the NCAA record for the highest career completion percentage (74%). While Sanders’ completion percentage is impressive, Ward clowned him about how he achieved that number.

“They gave you a completion percentage award when all you did was throw checkdowns and bubble screens,” Ward said to Sanders.

Ward, who completed 67.2% of his passes, took a dig at Sanders, arguing that if he had played the same way, his percentage would have been 90%.

“That’s actually crazy. If I did that, my completion percentage would be 90. I throw the ball downfield; you don’t,” Ward said to Sanders.

Sanders fired back: “You ran the ball; you had a run game [at Miami].”

Ward continued: “That’s how you got a 70% completion rate. All you do is this, look, LaJohntay [Wester], bubble screen, touchdown. I ain’t throwing bubble screens!”

Sanders said he could find highlights of Ward throwing bubble screens. Ward fired back, “Of course I threw, like, four. You lived and died off of it!”

“Consistency, that’s what he lacks,” Sanders said of Ward with a laugh.

“Do you got a Golden Arm?” Sanders asked Ward before teasing him for “missing that Golden Arm award,” referencing the fact that he won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award over the Miami QB.

After a good throw, Ward responded, “That’s the golden arm right there. … I ain’t had a bad rep yet.”

    “You lyin’,” Sanders said.

In another video, Ward continues to poke fun at Sanders.

“I hope you’re not getting water, we just had the first drill,” Ward said. “I know you aren’t getting water, we ain’t even done with the first drill. That’s how it is at Colorado, though. That’s what it’s like for a nine-win man.”

The video is censored, but it appears Sanders refers to Ward as “bi*** a**” before responding, “I don’t drink water; I drink Gatorade — the sh** I get paid for.”

    “That’s cool,” Ward said.

While the trash talk will continue between the two-star quarterbacks, they are expected to be among the top five picks in this year’s NFL Draft.

Sanders threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions and rushed for four touchdowns last season.

Meanwhile, Ward, who transferred to Miami from Washington State for his last college season, threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while rushing for four TDs.

Sanders and Ward’s 2025 NFL Draft Projections

Meanwhile, PFSN’s latest 2025 NFL mock draft by Ben Rolfe projects Ward being selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans. Here’s what Rolfe writes about the draft projection:

“The Tennessee Titans need an answer at quarterback, and Cam Ward is how the winds seem to be blowing right now. Of course, there are plenty of evaluation steps still to be done, and there are some intriguing ways the team could go.

“Ward is a fantastic playmaker at the position and would add dynamism to the offense. He is far from the finished product, which is a concern given that this Titans offense is not currently set up to be a place for developing a quarterback. However, getting to work with Brian Callahan should only bring the best out of him in the NFL.”

Sanders is projected to be the No. 2 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns. Here’s what Rolfe writes about the Colorado QB’s draft projection:

“While the Cleveland Browns may not be the most desirable landing spot for off-field elements for Shedeur Sanders, it is far from a bad situation for the Colorado quarterback. The Browns have a lot of pieces in place around Sanders and were really only held back by the quarterback play in 2024.

“Sanders is a promising NFL prospect. He is a pocket passer with enough mobility to make him effective. There are concerns about his arm strength, but he mitigates those with his compact release and impressive accuracy. Those mechanics can hide concerns when pressured, which is a concern with the Browns’ offensive line ranking 20th last season.”
