Who Is Cade Stover? Height, Weight, Age, and More

    Published on

After successfully transitioning from LB to TE, here is everything else you need to know about Ohio State's Cade Stover entering the 2024 NFL Draft.

The consensus tight end prospect atop the board entering the NFL this year is Georgia’s Brock Bowers. Yet, the TE2 overall is a discussion that is a bit more nuanced and feels a bit more subjective depending on what traits an evaluator values at the position.

Ohio State’s Cade Stover is certainly in the discussion for the second tight end off the board when the draft rolls around in late April.

Here is everything you need to know about Stover and his evaluation as a prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft.

    How Tall Is Cade Stover?

The tight end position tends to encompass a wide range of prospects, from hulking in-line extensions of the offensive line to move tight ends who profile as a larger wide receiver, and even hybrid fullback/H-back types.

Stover’s height at 6’4” (41st percentile) puts him right around the average range for an incoming prospect at the position.

    How Much Does Stover Weigh?

The rest of Stover’s frame falls in line with his height. His 247-pound frame (29th percentile), 32 3/4” arm length (42nd percentile), and 9 3/4” hand size (45th percentile) are all below average in comparison to his positional counterparts entering the NFL.

    How Old Is Stover?

After spending five years at the collegiate level, Stover will enter the 2024 NFL Draft at 23 years old. He will turn 24 later this summer, which puts him right around the middle of the pack regarding his age among his fellow tight ends in this class.

What School Did Stover Go To?

After being named Mr. Football in the state of Ohio during his final season at Lexington High School in Lexington, Ohio, Stover stayed in-state to play his college ball by spending all five years at Ohio State University.

    Revisiting Stover’s College Career

Stover’s college journey has been an interesting one given his positional movement during his days with the Buckeyes.

He was listed as a linebacker during his true freshman season back in 2019, where he made a minimal impact on one of the premier college football programs in the land with just two total tackles.

Stover was listed as a tight end during his redshirt freshman campaign during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. He did not catch a pass but did finish the year with three total tackles while moonlighting as a linebacker in his second season in Columbus, Ohio.

Stover’s 2021 campaign saw him make a small impact on both sides of the ball, once again performing split duties at tight end and linebacker. He caught five passes for 76 yards and registered 11 total tackles over his 13 games of action as a redshirt sophomore.

After teetering on the line between two different positions, Stover finally saw definitive full-time work on the offensive side of the ball with 36 receptions for 406 yards and five TDs while catching passes from C.J. Stroud in 2022.

His final season didn’t see a significant jump in production due to a drop in quarterback play and competing for targets with Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate, but Stover still managed to haul in 41 receptions for 576 yards and five TDs in 2023.

    Stover’s Potential in the NFL

Stover’s versatile tenure at Ohio State — playing two different positions — showcased how dynamic of an athlete he is at tight end. He flashed plenty of ability to scrap as an in-line blocking presence due to overall physicality, effectiveness with his hands, and explosive first step off the line of scrimmage.

His potential pitfalls are with his refinement as both a blocker and a route runner, which could stem from his split positional duties with the Buckeyes.

Additionally, Stover likely doesn’t have the top vertical speed or wide catch radius to be an elite threat as a pass catcher, but his reliable hands (zero drops in 2023) make him a viable contributor in the passing game.

Look for Stover to come off the board on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft, where he could start his career as a rotational tight end with starting-caliber upside down the road.
