Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter is the front-runner for this season’s Heisman Trophy race. Joining him and making a case of his own is Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty, who is having a phenomenal rushing season while leading his team to the Mountain West Championship Game.
There are a few others named as well, like Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel, but at the moment, it’s Hunter’s award to lose.
Bruce Feldman Assures Travis Hunter of His Heisman Vote
College football insider Bruce Feldman, who will be one of the voters to select this year’s Heisman, appeared on The Rich Eisen Show to discuss Hunter’s status as a Heisman contender.
Indirectly, he hinted that Hunter will have at least one vote for his Heisman candidacy.
“I’m not supposed to say this, but we’re not supposed to reveal who our votes will be for until after the award is announced,” Feldman said. “That said, I think there’s a really good chance he’s going to have at least one vote I know of. He’s just a phenomenal talent.
“I’m awed by what you see when you watch him play. Most Outstanding Player? I mean, the guy wears a quarterback number. I’ll say that.”

Hunter put in a stunning performance in Week 14 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He caught 10 receptions for 116 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he contributed with an interception.
Thanks in large part to Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Colorado has secured bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016. Although they missed out on playing in the Big 12 Championship Game following their 37-21 upset loss to Kansas in Week 13, they’ll likely play in the Alamo or Las Vegas Bowl as the final game of their season.
Deion Sanders Makes Special Case for Hunter’s Heisman Case
Following Colorado’s Week 14 win, head coach Deion Sanders propelled Hunter’s Heisman candidacy with his verdict.
“Travis Hunter proved today, and he has proved every week that he is the best player in college football,” Sanders said.
“You’ve got to give me another definition of the award. The award is to go to who? The best quarterback? He’s up for best offensive player, best defensive player, a plethora of things. Who else has done that? Ever?”
Even Shedeur Sanders has no doubt Hunter should win the Heisman Trophy.
“There’s no argument at this point,” said Shedeur. “That’s crazy, the consistency that he has, that’s what the award is about.”
The Heisman finalists will be announced on Dec. 9, whereas the winner will be announced on Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.
