Cleveland Browns vs. Minnesota Vikings prediction and odds | Week 4

    Odds provided by DraftKings sportsbook.

    • Spread: CLE -1
    • Moneyline: CLE -120, MIN +100
    • Over/Under: 47.5 (Over -110, Under -110)

The Browns are 2-1 in the standings and 2-1 against the spread. They showed a bit more fight against the Chiefs in Week 1 than oddsmakers expected, and they also crushed the Bears into oblivion in Week 3. Oddly enough, their only loss against the spread was to Houston — but that was more due to a larger-than-usual spread of -13. Cleveland still won by double-digits, reaffirming their status as one of the league’s most imposing teams.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are also 2-1 against the spread but only come in at 1-2 in the NFL standings. They started off the season with two gut-wrenching losses — one in overtime against the Bengals and another caused by a missed game-winning field goal against the Cardinals. Nevertheless, Minnesota rebounded in Week 3 with a 13-point win over Seattle. They’re a better team than their record implies, and Kirk Cousins is playing great football.

But are they good enough to beat the Browns?

    Browns vs. Vikings prediction

Given the Vikings’ penchant for close games against comparable competition, we can’t guarantee that they won’t push with a one-point loss. But that’s near the bottom of the probable outcomes.

The game is in Minnesota, but that may only embolden the universe’s urge to inflict pain and sorrow on Vikings fans with another close loss. More likely, however, is that the Browns just wind up being the better team.

That’s not a slight to Minnesota. The Vikings have a great offense, with an offensive line that’s performed better than expected — even without first-round tackle Christian Darrisaw. Yet, the Browns are just as good in that phase, and they have a defense that can be stifling.

Browns’ overall talent and depth may outlast the Vikings through four quarters

As competitive as the Vikings have been through three weeks, the Browns have one of the best rosters in the league on paper. In the trenches — where games are commonly won and lost — the Browns have at least a modest advantage on both sides of the ball. Whether Darrisaw plays or Rashod Hill gets the start at left tackle again, Myles Garrett is a planetary-sized mismatch.

Luckily for the Vikings, interior linemen Garrett Bradbury and Oli Udoh have played much better than expected so far, so the mismatch may be limited to the edge. But even behind the trenches, the Browns have a rising star in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and an air-tight secondary that includes Denzel Ward, Troy Hill, John Johnson, and Grant Delpit. If there’s a silver lining for Minnesota, it’s that Browns star rookie Greg Newsome II will be out on Sunday. That may free up some room for Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson.

The Vikings have enough talent to compete, and Cousins has proven he can keep things close while playing from behind. Nevertheless, the Browns should wrestle this one away from Minnesota by a field goal or more.

Browns vs. Vikings Prediction: Browns 34, Vikings 31
