Browns Predicted To Prioritize Generational Talent Over QB, Bet Big on 78-TD Star in Round 3

The Cleveland Browns may pass on a QB in Round 1 in favor of a generational talent and a high-upside play later in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Cleveland Browns are facing a tough decision in the 2025 NFL Draft, as they have the No. 2 pick behind only the Tennessee Titans.

There are a plethora of routes the Browns can go, including quarterback, defender, or even a two-way talent. The Titans will likely draft a quarterback like Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, or edge rusher Abdul Carter. Yet, there’s a strong possibility Cleveland does not opt for one of those stars.

Cleveland Browns Predicted To Select Colorado Two-Way Star Travis Hunter at No. 2

Travis Hunter is widely regarded as the most unique prospect in recent memory, as no one is entirely sure where he’ll be playing in the NFL. Most expect the Heisman Trophy winner to take the majority of reps at cornerback while having a special package in the playbook at wide receiver.

This is exactly why Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante predicts the Browns will select Hunter at No. 2, taking a swing at a QB later on.

“There hasn’t been a prospect like Travis Hunter in quite some time. While he has potential as a wide receiver at the next level, I like him better in a part-time offensive role to maximize his elite ball skills and fluidity as a cornerback in coverage,” Infante wrote. “Wherever he ends up, you can expect him to play a role on both sides of the ball.”

Cleveland ranked No. 32 in PFN’s Offense+ metric and No. 9 in the Defense+ metric. Hunter is a player the Browns would hope contributes to boosting both of those rankings.

Cleveland remains desperate for a quarterback, as Deshaun Watson’s massive contract clouds the team’s future.

However, a mediocre crop of first-round passers and a handful of capable veterans in free agency could push the Browns to take a quarterback on Day 2 instead.

Browns Predicted To Bet Big on 78-TD QB in Round 3

Just because Cleveland doesn’t select its potential QB of the future in Round 1 doesn’t mean it can’t spend a relatively early pick on the position

Enter Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, who in his four seasons with the Crimson Tide recorded 78 total touchdowns. He is widely regarded as one of the top dual-threat QBs in the class, finishing the 2024 campaign with 168 carries for 726 yards and 20 TDs. PFN predicts the Browns will roll the dice on the Texas native, selecting him with the No. 67 pick.

“Just because the Browns are stuck with Deshaun Watson doesn’t mean they still can’t draft a quarterback early! It’s possible Jalen Milroe goes much higher than this due to his tremendous arm and elite athleticism, but his tape is maddeningly inconsistent,” Infante wrote. “Nonetheless, it’s worth taking a shot to see if he lives up to his potential.”

It’s a high-risk, high-reward play that makes a lot of sense for a Cleveland team with one of the most expensive QBs in the league under center.
