‘It’s Tough, It’s Complicated’ – Browns’ Pro Bowler Makes Feelings Known on Myles Garrett Requesting Trade From Franchise

Cleveland Browns star tight end David Njoku discusses the impact of Myles Garrett requesting a trade from the franchise after a 3-14 season.

Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett requested a trade from the team in the week leading up to Super Bowl 59. The six-time Pro Bowler wants to play for a Super Bowl-contending team, and since the Browns finished with a record of 3-14 this past season, he’s looking to play elsewhere.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is expected to miss the entirety of next season due to his Achilles injury, and Cleveland’s QB situation is one of the worst in the NFL. Thus, Garrett has made the hard decision to seek a trade. However, tight end David Njoku still hopes the star defensive player will stay in Cleveland.

David Njoku Wants To Convince Myles Garrett To Stay in Cleveland

According to a recent report from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns star tight end wants Garrett to continue playing in Cleveland and chase the Super Bowl title together. Njoku isn’t disgruntled with the former Defensive Player of the Year and understands his ambition of playing elsewhere, but he still wants to try to convince him to stay.

“I hope Myles tries to stay,” Njoku said. “That’s like a brother to me, obviously, so I’m going talk to him and see what I can do… Myles is a big part of our team, so you hate to see a guy like that leave.”

“I’m not mad at him for wanting to win a championship,” Njoku added. “We all want to be champions. It’s tough. It’s complicated… There’s only one way to find out. I’ll talk to him, and we’ll go from there.”

Garrett has played eight seasons in the NFL and has been named a Pro Bowler six times. He’s also been an All-Pro on four occasions and, at the age of 29, has arguably cemented his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

However, a player of Garrett’s caliber should be playing in the biggest games, which doesn’t seem likely to happen in Cleveland.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is from the same draft class as Garrett and could potentially win the fourth Super Bowl of his career. The Browns star deserves to play for a team that can make a run at the Super Bowl, and with the Watson experiment failing horribly in Cleveland, things are not looking good for the franchise.

Garrett Is Unlikely To Continue With the Browns

Although Browns general manager Andrew Berry has shown no signs of trading Garrett, the general expectation is that the player will find a way out of Cleveland.

Garrett recently named the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders among the teams he would like to play for next season. At the 2025 NFL Honors, he was also spotted having a conversation with Jared Goff and Aidan Hutchinson, so a move to Detroit is also possible for the Texas A&M product.

Despite a disappointing season for the Browns, Garrett had another double-digit sacks season, finishing the year with 47 combined tackles, 22 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, 14.0 sacks, and 28 quarterback hits.

Garrett has recorded double-digit sacks in seven of his eight NFL seasons and is arguably the league’s most valuable defensive player. The Browns could get a decent trade package in return for him, including a first-round pick. Garrett has two years left on his current contract, so it will be interesting to see how the situation will play out in Cleveland.
