Denver Broncos star wide receiver Courtland Sutton believes that the Heisman committee would be making a mistake by not selecting Travis Hunter for the award this season. Presented to the top college football player in the country, the Heisman Trophy is considered one of — if not the — highest honor in college football.
Sutton is in the midst of a standout and noteworthy campaign in Denver under head coach Sean Payton and Rookie of the Year candidate Bo Nix. Sutton’s 846 receiving yards are the most he has had in a season since 2019, and the Broncos still have four games remaining.
Earlier this week, Sutton was asked about wearing a sweatshirt that featured the Colorado Buffaloes’ star dual-threat. The aforementioned sweatshirt features the phrase “HE12MAN” alongside a graphic of Hunter holding a football.
What Did Sutton Say About Hunter?
Sutton detailed his belief: “What he’s doing is amazing. It would be a shame if the Heisman committee gave it to someone else.”

Sutton’s endorsement is notable, as the talented wide receiver has a large platform at the NFL level, further publicizing Hunter’s historic season at the collegiate level.
Is Travis Hunter the Favorite for the Heisman Trophy?
Hunter is currently the favorite for this year’s Heisman Trophy. However, other names like Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty and Hunter’s teammate, Shedeur Sanders, are also in play for the nation’s top college honor.
While Jeanty and Sanders have been remarkable this season, it is difficult to compare their impact to Hunter, someone who has played almost every snap on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. What is most impressive is the fact that Hunter does not seem limited in any situation and seems to thrive in both aspects of the game.
Offensively, he has elite speed and can make contested catches. This has allowed the Buffaloes to stretch the field and complement the short passing game. Defensively, he has great anticipation and football IQ, which allows him to create turnovers, even when being avoided by opposing quarterbacks and coaches.
Though it remains to be seen who wins this Heisman this year, it is clear that Sutton believes Hunter should be the winner of the prestigious award.
