Broncos Icon Panicking Over Prospect of Bo Nix Engaging in Shootout vs. Joe Burrow’s Bengals With Playoff Spot on the Line

With a playoff spot on the line, one former Broncos legend is concerned about a Bo Nix shootout against Joe Burrow in Denver's Week 17 matchup.

This week rookie Bo Nix will go toe-to-toe with the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Both sides will be eying a win to improve their playoff chances.

However, Denver Broncos legend Mark Schlereth isn’t too confident for his former side. The three-time Super Bowl winner aired his worries about Nix facing off against Burrow.

Mark Schlereth Picks Joe Burrow Over Bo Nix To Do the Job

After the Broncos’ loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16, their playoff road has become rocky. Their last game in the regular season is against the defending champions. Hence, Schlereth believes beating the Bengals is their best path forward to the postseason.

However, during his appearance on FS1’s “Breakfast Ball,” the two-time Pro Bowler shared his worries. “Defensively, they’ve (Broncos) started to leak oil a little bit,” he said. “They have not figured out their run game at all.”

“You’re going to have to go toe-to-toe in a shootout. Bo Nix vs. Joe Burrow. As much as I love Bo Nix, I’m taking Joe Burrow in a shootout. You’re going to have to hang 30-something on Cincinnati to win this game. I’m nervous.”

Nix Not Worried About Facing Off Against Burrow in Week 17

With a playoff spot on the line, the Week 17 matchup has monumental consequences. However, while facing the media on Wednesday, Nix did not show any cause of panicking at the prospect of going against Burrow.

“It’s fun playing against these MVP-caliber quarterbacks, who are playing really good this year,” said Nix. He’s (Burrow) having an awesome year. He’s put together some great weeks, but our defense, they get to go out there and handle that.”

“I think ultimately it comes down to execution. He’s going to have to play well, we’re going to have to play well.”

The Broncos will travel to Paycor Stadium on Saturday to take on the Bengals. The game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
