In his 22nd career game with the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy delivered a near-flawless performance. And in the process, he etched his name with franchise legends Joe Montana and Steve Young after guiding the Niners to the 27-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brock Purdy Makes Franchise History
Purdy threw his first incompletion on his second attempt, which was an underthrown pass to Deebo Samuel.
And that was one of just four incompletions on the day for Purdy. He went 21 of 25 for 333 yards and three touchdowns.
As a result, Purdy became the first 49ers QB to produce a perfect passer rating (158.3) since Joe Montana.

When the former “Mr. Irrelevent” in the 2022 NFL Draft assumed the reins under center, Purdy took the mantle once popularized and dominated by Joe Cool and Steve Young. And he took that pedestal for a franchise searching for someone who could join the revered QBs in bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to the Bay Area.
Now, in not even 25 games, Purdy has placed his name next to the legendary passers. But just how efficient was he?
Purdy by the Numbers
Purdy’s last incomplete pass in the first half came at the 6:43 mark of the first quarter, missing out on a deep connection to Brandon Aiyuk.
His right arm — which was once criticized by NFL scouts before the draft — got hot from there.

Purdy went back to Aiyuk for a 14-yard catch. And from there, he went on to complete his next nine passes. That includes this short lob to Christian McCaffrey.

But the dagger got pulled out on this 76-yard bomb to Aiyuk — which is the third-longest touchdown pass of the 2023 season and the longest TD throw of Purdy’s career.

Purdy was on top of his game on passes that sailed more than 10 yards. He went 7 of 10 for 213 yards with two touchdowns in that category.
‘What an Honor’ – Purdy Reacts to Historic Day
Purdy addressed having his name next to Montana and Young in his postgame presser.
“What an honor,” Purdy began.
He opted to avoid being complacent and felt his game was far from perfect.
“But, at the same time, I feel like there’s some plays that I wished I had back. I’m not completely content with just that,” Purdy said.
He chose to give his most credit to the others who were the 49er logo with him.
“I thought it was a great game with the guys around me — the coaching, the play-calling, and the guys around me. That’s a testament to our team,” Purdy said.
