San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has had a unique story in the NFL as he went from being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to being a candidate for the 2023 MVP Award.
Purdy is currently on his second postseason run with the 49ers. How has the QB fared in the playoffs throughout his career?
Brock Purdy’s Playoff Record
After the win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round, Purdy holds a 3-1 playoff record.
Purdy became the first rookie QB in franchise history to lead San Francisco into the NFC Championship Game, and last season he became one of only five rookie QBs to start in a conference title game.
Last season’s run started with a Wild Card win over the Seattle Seahawks where Purdy completed 18 of 30 passes for an impressive 332 yards, tossing three touchdowns in the 41-23 win.
They then had a Divisional Round victory over the Dallas Cowboys where Purdy improved his completion percentage to 65.5% and completed 19 of 29 passes for 214 yards in the 19-12 win.
Purdy and the 49ers made it to the NFC Championship Game in 2022, but the quarterback’s run ended in frustrating fashion against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On the first series of the game, Purdy tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He left the game only to return in the second half because of a concussion for backup Josh Johnson, primarily only completing handoffs. San Francisco lost 31-7.
Last week in the NFC Divisional Round, the Niners came away with a 24-21 win over the Packers to advance to the NFC Championship Game.
In the win, Purdy finished 23-of-39 passing for 252 yards and a touchdown. He battled some first-half struggles and never fully found a rhythm typical of his 2023 season.

Moving forward, he said he is focused on the “new game” as they prepare to take on the Detroit Lions with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
“It doesn’t matter if you played good or bad,” Purdy said on Wednesday about his showing versus Green Bay. “I don’t take really any of that with you the next week, it’s a new game, it’s a new scheme, it’s a new environment. Everything about it is new. So it’s almost like you’ve got to clean the slate, learn from the mistakes, build off of the good things that you’ve done. But it’s a new game.”
He led a game-winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter on Saturday, completing six of seven passes on the drive and scrambling twice for 11 yards.
“We’re all sitting here because of him, obviously,” receiver Brandon Aiyuk said on Wednesday via The Associated Press. “Steady. A dawg. Just a football player. I love playing football with him. He’s the reason why I’m sitting here today with an opportunity this weekend to play my best football, because of a quarterback like him.”
This is the third-straight conference title appearance for the Niners, and Purdy is only looking ahead.
“Obviously, I’m excited that we’re here,” Purdy said. “Last year is last year. That was its own game. It hasn’t been anything that has bled into this year or this game. This is the 49ers against the Lions now. So it’s a new year, a new approach.”
