Brock Bowers has been on a tear all season long, breaking the NFL rookie receptions record for any position. While the Las Vegas Raiders have been in a season-long slump (though they enter the season finale with back-to-back wins), Bowers tried his best to lift them.
Despite his team being eliminated from the playoffs, Bowers has a chance to lift hardware this season. His girlfriend Cameron Newell is leading the charge to get the tight end to be declared as the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Brock Bowers’ Girlfriend Joins Fans for TE’s OROY Bid
The Raiders’ fans have taken over the internet with “#BrockForOROY” — now, Newell has endorsed the plan on her Instagram stories as well. She posted a couple of pictures from Allegiant Stadium, with the wall of Bowers’ heroics on display.
This claim is not without its merits considering the records the 22-year-old has already broken in his rookie season. Last week against the New Orleans Saints, Bowers set the NFL record for most receiving yards by a tight end (1,144) and the record for most receptions by a rookie at any position (108).
On top of that, Bowers has an opportunity to break the record of the Philadelphia Eagles Zach Ertz’s record of most receptions by a tight end in a season (116). The 13th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft needs nine or more receptions to do so.
In any other season, Bowers would’ve comfortably been named as the OROY. However, two factors can stop him from claiming the prize this year. The first one being, the Raiders’ terrible season (4-12) and the second being Jayden Daniels.
Daniels has been otherworldly this year. He has already overtaken last season’s OROY recipient C.J. Stroud in terms of pure stats. The Washington Commanders QB has racked up 3,530 yards for 25 TDs and has taken his side to the playoffs.
It will be interesting to see whether Newell joining the Raiders’ campaign in favor of Bowers will propel him to the illustrious stage. He can help his case on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers by breaking Ertz’s record.
