Jim Nantz is set to call his 500th career NFL game on Sunday, a legendary, career-defining milestone. Ahead of his call for Sunday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos, Nantz sat down with CBS Sports to relive and recall some of his most famous calls.
Jim Nantz’s Impressive Memory Recall
Nantz is able to recall some of his game calls by just four words! Starting with the Miracle in Motown touchdown from Aaron Rodgers to Richard Rodgers for a walk-off touchdown on an untimed down in Detroit in December of 2015.
Nantz recalls the game from just the phrase “in the end zone.”

After getting one wrong, Nantz comes back by remembering based off the phrase “got him at the 40,” a game played between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos in January of 2012. Nantz recalled the exact play that was scored in overtime by the late Demaryius Thomas.
Nantz even recalled a college football game he called in 1991 and a more recent play of Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland setting the NFL’s pick-six record before dropping some beautiful wisdom on the way he approaches calling games in the booth.
The Reactions to Jim Nantz Are Almost More Fun Than the Recollections
Tony Romo is hosting this sit-down with Nantz and is just shocked and marveled at the level of which Nantz is recalling all of these games and moments in his career. Clearly nothing gets lost in the shuffle. The replies on X are filled with fans congratulating Nantz on the 500th NFL game of his career.

Also in the replies, people recalling their own memories of games Nantz has called.
Sunday’s game between the Bills and Broncos may appear lopsided. The Bills finished their season 13-4 and are quarterbacked by MVP candidate Josh Allen; the Broncos finished 10-7 (with a gifted win from the Kansas City Chiefs’ backups) and are led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
However, one thing is certain, the booth will be graced by a living legend, Jim Nantz.
