Breece Hall Injury Update: Will Hall Play in Week 1? Fantasy Impact and More

As Breece Hall continues to recover from his knee injury, will he be active in Week 1, and what should fantasy managers do in terms of starting him this week?

The New York Jets running back situation is one of the most intriguing in the NFL entering Week 1. Before his injury, Breece Hall looked like a potential superstar in the making for the Jets. However, during the offseason, New York signed RB Dalvin Cook, creating one of the most talented duos in the league.

Heading into Week 1, Hall was still working his way back from injury and had not been practicing in full. With the Jets not playing until Monday night, fantasy managers have been left in a state of limbo with regard to his status.

Latest News Surrounding Breece Hall

The news on Hall’s injury is generally positive, but it’s not a 100% positive outlook. Hall returned to practice in full on Saturday, having been limited on each of the previous days.

However, the Jets listed him as questionable in terms of his game status, leaving an element of uncertainty as to whether he would be on the field.

Will Hall Play This Week?

Everything seems to be pointing towards Hall playing for the Jets in Week 1. However, head coach Robert Saleh was very non-committal during his Saturday media availability when it came to the role Hall may play on Monday.

From the way Saleh spoke, it gave every indication that Hall will be on the field. However, it very much seems that his usage could be fluid against Buffalo.

Although, with other talented backs like Cook and Michael Carter in the rotation, that could be the case every week if the Jets decide to adopt a hot-hand approach to their RB group.

What Does This Mean for Hall’s Fantasy Ranking?

The uncertainty over the Jets’ RB situation is evident in PFN’s Week 1 Consensus Fantasy Rankings. Cook currently sits 73rd overall as the RB30, with Hall just behind him at 78 overall and RB34. The most bullish among our team in terms of Cook is Kyle Soppe, who has Cook at 45 overall and Hall at 79.

The rest of the team has Cook and Hall ranked almost identical. Kyle Yates and Derek Tate actually have Hall marginally above Cook. Meanwhile, Jason Katz has Cook marginally higher, but by just two spots.

When it comes to PFN’s Fantasy Football Start/Sit Optimizer, it’s Cook who is recommended as the start, but not by much. Cook is projected for 8.8 fantasy points in PPR scoring, with Hall projected for 8.0.

Hall’s projections have him rushing the ball for 29 yards, with a projection of 1.5 receptions for 17 yards. They also have him slated with a 30% chance of finding the end zone this week.

Starting anyone from the Jets this week is a risky proposition with all the unknowns. Cook has dealt with injuries during the offseason and hasn’t practiced extensively with the team. This very well may be a game where we see a balance between the three backs.

To some extent, it may not be a surprise if Michael Carter ends up leading the team in touches as they ease Cook and Hall into the offense while they return from injuries. Ultimately, while it’s tough to sit Hall or Cook with their talent, this might be a week where you have to look elsewhere unless you’re struggling for other options.

The ranking of Hall outside of the top 30 RBs very much indicates he is more of a realistic Flex option than a slam-dunk starting running back in Week 1.
