The Miami Dolphins haven’t made many splash signings during 2024 free agency. Salary cap restrictions have led to Miami losing talent like cornerback Xavien Howard and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.
However, on Saturday, the Dolphins had enough room to keep a pivotal member of their offense and special teams in Braxton Berrios.
Contract Details Emerge for Braxton Berrios
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported the move. Berrios’ agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, helped confirm the Dolphins’ decision to keep the wideout.
Berrios’ new deal is for one year and $3 million.

Berrios may not command a massive presence in the Dolphins’ offense, especially with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle as the top options in the aerial attack. However, he’s been lauded for his reliable hands when called upon. He caught 27 passes on 33 targets last season for 238 yards and a touchdown.
Miami fans have witnessed his dynamics as a return man, too. Berrios averaged 24.5 yards per kickoff return and racked up an average of 10.2 yards per punt return.
Berrios has become a fan favorite among Dolphin fans, both through his versatility and even his social media presence via his relationship with Alix Earle. The 23-year-old soulmate of Berrios rose to fame through TikTok and has more than six million social media followers. Berrios is often featured in Earle’s videos online.
What Was Berrios Making Before? A Look at Past Contracts
The 28-year-old Berrios was originally set to enter free agency in 2024.
He signed a one-year deal last season, but that was worth up to $3.5 million. Berrios’ base salary was set at $1.5 million and was guaranteed $3 million, per Spotra.
But that 2023 deal wasn’t considered the richest contract he ever signed.
He signed with the New York Jets in March 2022 on a two-year deal that paid him up to $12 million. Berrios was awarded that deal after leading the NFL by averaging 30.4 yards per kickoff return, leading to an All-Pro nod.
Berrios was additionally given a signing bonus of more than $5.4 million, with $7 million guaranteed to come his way. But on March 9, 2023, the Jets decided to release Berrios.
Miami would claim him off waivers and sign him to the $3.5 million deal. Now, he’ll get the chance to stick around longer and help both the WR and special teams rooms.
Berrios has spent his entire NFL career in the AFC East. He started with the New England Patriots as a sixth-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Berrios signed a rookie deal for four years, $2.5 million.

He never got the chance to start in a single game for the Pats as he went on injured reserve on Sept. 1, 2018. However, the team gave him a Super Bowl ring for being a part of the Pats’ Super Bowl 53 roster.
Berrios has 134 career receptions for 1,323 yards and has scored six receiving touchdowns. He’s scored 11 total touchdowns, with four off rushing attempts.
