Legendary former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick advocated for the Lombardi Trophy to be renamed after Tom Brady.
While appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Belichick discussed how the players, not the coaches, ultimately decide how games turn out. Citing various players he coached over the years, including Brady, Mike Vrabel, and Randy Moss, Belichick made clear that “you can’t win without good players” in the NFL.
Belichick is among the most successful and winningest coaches in National Football League history. He is a six-time Super Bowl Champion and a three-time Associated Press Coach of the Year. This past year, he moved into a media role, but he is now the head coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

Belichick made it clear to Jim Gray on SiriusXM NFL Radio that players, not coaches, win games and decide their outcomes.
“Players win games. You can’t win games without good players. I don’t care who the coach is. It’s impossible. You can’t win without good players,” Belichick stated.
When reminded that the NFL’s biggest trophy is named after a legendary coach rather than a player, Belichick suggested that it should be renamed.
“Maybe they should name it the Brady Trophy. He won seven of them,” he added.

Could NFL Rename the Lombardi Trophy After Brady?
Brady is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time due to the individual and team success he had over his long and storied career. Brady is near or at the top of almost every important quarterback record and is a seven-time Super Bowl Champion, the most out of any player in NFL history.
During his regular season career, he amassed 89,214 passing yards and 649 passing touchdowns, both No. 1 all-time. His playoff stats alone are just as stunning and legendary in their own right. He had 13,400 passing yards and 88 touchdowns during his postseason playing career, both of which also rank No. 1 all-time.
If there ever was someone to warrant the NFL changing the name of their top trophy, it would be Brady. Though only time will tell whether this actually happens, it appears as though Belichick is pushing for it and would support the decision.
