While at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, new Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson revealed that he constantly received text messages from one of his players during Super Bowl 59.
Discussing the topic with NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, Johnson outlined how star quarterback Caleb Williams kept his phone buzzing during this year’s big game.

Caleb Williams’ Super Bowl 59 Text Messages
According to Johnson, Williams constantly texted him and asked for his thoughts on the plays as they unfolded during Super Bowl 59. Pelissero posted the clip onto his X profile.
Ben Johnson’s phone kept buzzing during the Super Bowl. It was Caleb Williams.
“I just know this is a hungry individual (who’s) ready to get this career started of his, because he’s got a chance to be pretty darn special.”

“I’m trying to watch the Super Bowl with my family, I made it back to Detroit, just for a weekend. I’m watching and my phone just keeps buzzing, and it’s Caleb time and time again. What’s going on here? What do we think? That was a cool play. Things like that.”
“I just know this is a hungry individual (who’s) ready to get this career started of his because he’s got a chance to be pretty darn special,” Johnson stated.
Chicago Bears QB Williams’ 2025 Outlook
Williams and the Bears struggled after their bye week this past year. Heading into their week break, the Bears had a strong 4-2 record and were playing good football. However, the team hit a wall after the break, ending the final stretch of the campaign with a record of 1-10. That brutal stretch included the infamous Thanksgiving Day timeout debacle, and Jayden Daniel’s walk-off Hail Mary play.
Chicago ultimately finished the season fourth in the NFC North with a record of 5-12, behind the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Johnson’s former team, the Detroit Lions.
Despite this poor overall team campaign, Williams did have a solid rookie season individually. He had 3,541 passing yards, 20 touchdown passes, and only six interceptions on the year, an impressive rookie stat line.
Looking to next season, the Bears are expected to take a positive step behind Johnson’s leadership and innovative play-calling. When he was the offensive coordinator of the Lions, they were one of the most interesting and exciting offensive units in the NFL.
This Bears offense, which features stars in Williams, D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Cole Kmet, unquestionably has the talent and ability to become one of the best in the league under Johnson as well.
