‘This Is What Accountability Looks Like’ – Bears Fire Matt Eberflus As NFL Fans Hail Much-Awaited Decision

    Published on

Former Bears HC Matt Eberflus’ dismissal comes after his baffling timeout mismanagement against the Detroit Lions, resulting in a 23-20 loss.

The Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus following a catastrophic Thanksgiving Day 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions. The Bears had a reputation of never firing a head coach midseason, but Eberflus somehow managed to change history.

The Bears broke tradition in dramatic fashion because, earlier in the day, Eberflus said that he was confident he would be on the sidelines for their next game against the San Francisco 49ers. Interim offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

NFL Fans Can’t Keep Calm After Matt Eberflus Firing

Matt Eberflus’ dismissal comes after his baffling timeout mismanagement against the Lions. It all happened with 32 seconds remaining, and Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked.

The team was in dire need of stopping the clock. Instead, Eberflus opted to hold onto the timeout, leading to a rushed final play where Williams’ deep pass to Rome Odunze fell incomplete as time expired. Social media erupted with reactions to Eberflus’ firing, with one fan sarcastically commenting, “It’s not his fault, his controller died at the end of the game.”

Another fan expressed relief, tagging the Cleveland Browns in a tweet that read, “This is what accountability looks like.”

One more fan commented, “How much easier this would have been if they just did it before 9am cst. What a cluster,” referring to the disastrous call that Eberflus made against the Lions.

The humor didn’t stop there — many fans couldn’t resist mocking Eberflus’ earlier press conference where he stated, “I’m confident I’ll be working on to San Francisco and getting ready for that game.”

“why didn’t they do this before him meeting with the media this morning 🥴,” said another.

One fan couldn’t contain his humor, writing, “Hahahahahahahaha……they deleted his news conference from this morning where he said he was confident that he’d be the coach against the 49ers……that’s HILARIOUS……”

One fan chimed in, “Well, I am shocked…..shocked it wasn’t 18 hrs ago. SMH What were they waiting on?”

One fan showed positivity, saying, “The Bears are making changes. Now the focus shifts to finding a new coach to turn things around. Stay connected.”

Eberflus’ record as head coach paints a grim picture: 14-32 over two-plus seasons. The Bears’ 4-8 campaign this year includes their current six straight losses, marred with bizarre coaching choices. After the Lions game, he told reporters, “I think we handled it the right way,” explaining that the timeout was reserved for a potential field goal attempt. Fans, however, remained unconvinced.

This midseason firing wouldn’t have been easy for an organization that prides itself on history and tradition. While Eberflus is out, the pressure is on the Bears to deliver a brighter future — and finally give their long-suffering fans something to cheer about.
