Chicago Bears fans are in full meltdown mode after reports surfaced suggesting a possible benching of Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. What was once seen as a promising future for the rookie quarterback is now spiraling amid one of the worst slumps in Bears’ history.
The offense is failing, and with a brutal schedule ahead, it seems Chicago’s front office is debating drastic measures to turn things around. The tipping point came in Sunday’s 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots when Williams was sacked nine times and threw for only 120 yards.
Bears Fans Riled Up After Caleb Williams Benching News
NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show” that the Bears are considering changes, including possibly benching Williams in favor of backup Tyson Bagent.
“They have been engaged today in conversations about what is the best way for them to move forward as a franchise and improve as a franchise. So I don’t know what they’ll ultimately wind up doing, but I would expect some sort of change in Chicago on the offensive side of the football…”
Fans wasted no time airing their frustration on social media. One fan ranted, “This franchise is a disgrace. Need more OL, better coaches, and for old age to catch up with all the McCaskeys.”

Another chimed in, “If we bench Caleb Williams, I’m done with this team.”
Longtime supporters didn’t hold back, with one writing, “I’ve been a Bears fan for 4+ decades, but this dysfunction is hitting levels I never thought possible. What a disaster of a franchise.”
“That would be a horrible horrible mistake for a ton of reasons,” said another.
One Bears fan wrote, “Caleb’s representatives need to be demanding a trade ASAP before the Bears ruin his career.”
One X user mocked the franchise, saying, “Shakespeare couldn’t write a tragedy more depressing than the story of the Bears ruining QBs.”
“If they bench Caleb Williams no one should to go or watch the games,” wrote another.
Chicago’s offense went 1 for 14 on third downs. The Bears are now on a scoreless run of 22 possessions without a touchdown. This breakdown in performance, combined with an ineffective offensive line and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron’s questionable play-calling, has left fans furious.
However, amidst the outcry, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus quickly attempted to douse the flames. He confirmed that “Caleb is our starter” but hinted at potential “changes and adjustments” on the offensive side. This may very well mean an end to Waldron’s time in Chicago.
Matt Eberflus when asked if there will be a Quarterback change:
"No, Caleb is our starter."

For now, the situation remains tense. Fans are anxious to see if the team can turn the tide — or if this season will add another chapter to the long-running saga of the Bears’ dysfunction.
