Ben Johnson is getting ready for his first season as an NFL head coach. He is building a special staff in Chicago and has brought multiple veteran coaches to help him make the Chicago Bears a Super Bowl contender.
The Bears have hired Eric Bieniemy as their new running backs coach. Bieniemy has postseason experience, including winning two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs. Here’s how Bears fans responded to Johnson’s latest addition to his coaching staff.
Bears Fans React to Ben Johnson Adding Eric Bieniemy to His Staff
Bieniemy came close to becoming a head coach in the NFL in the last few years, and he even left the Chiefs to prove his worth. However, his stints with the Washington Commanders and UCLA Bruins were not successful, and he is now back in the NFL as a positional coach.
Since Bieniemy is famous for keeping players accountable and coaching them hard, the Bears fans on social media were quite excited about his addition to the team. Here are some of the reactions.

“I really like this hire, but maybe I’d switch the current “OC” with EB… just me, though,” said a fan.
Another fan added, “Great hire. Adds another vet to the game plan as well.”

“Good to see! Should be a head coach soon,” wrote a fan.
“Well, the players wanted to be held accountable. We know he will bring that for sure,” said one fan.

The Chiefs have continued to succeed after Bieniemy’s departure, but it would be fair to say that their offense has not looked the same under Matt Nagy. However, Bienemy didn’t fare well either, stumbling in Washington and UCLA. He has some nice options in the backfield to work with as RB D’Andre Swift enters the second year of his three-year contract and Roschon Johnson prepares for his third season.
What he can do with that room will depend on what Johnson and the front office can do to shore up the offensive line in the offseason. While Chicago drafted QB Caleb Williams to be the face of the franchise in 2024, the struggles on the offensive line were evident and have to be addressed. Bienemy will face similar challenges coaching running backs who lacked effective run blocking last season.
A Look at the Bears Coaching Staff for the 2025 NFL Season
As mentioned earlier, Johnson has built a great coaching staff so far, and he is leaving no stone unturned to make sure he will be the Bears’ head coach for years to come. Here’s a look at how his staff looks so far:
- Offensive Coordinator – Declan Doyle
- Defensive Coordinator – Dennis Allen
- Special Teams Coordinator – Richard Hightower
- Quarterbacks Coach: J.T. Barrett
- Offensive Assistant: Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers – Robbie Picazo
- Running Backs Coach – Eric Bieniemy
- Tight Ends Coach – Jim Dray
- Offensive Quality Control – Zach Cable
- Defensive Quality Control – Kevin Koch and Kenny Norton III
The Bears finished last season with a record of 5-12, and Williams’ rookie season was a big disappointment. According to PFN’s 2024 QB+ rankings, Williams ranked 33rd in the league with a QB+ score of 63.2.
The NFC North is one of the best divisions in football, so Johnson and the rest of his coaching staff have to be at their best to turn the Bears into a contender. So far, he has done all the right things. Now, he and general manager Ryan Poles have to make the right moves through the NFL Draft and free agency to start the turnaround.
