Baylor vs. Ole Miss prediction, pick for the 2022 Allstate Sugar Bowl

Here are our pick and prediction for the Baylor vs. Ole Miss Allstate Sugar Bowl. With Matt Corral under center, are the Rebels an easy pick?

The first round of the College Football Playoff may be over, but college football bowl season never sleeps. The Baylor vs. Ole Miss Allstate Sugar Bowl is one of the best New Year’s Six contests this season, and we have a pick and prediction to go with the festivities. Will Matt Corral lead the Rebels over Gerry Bohanon and the Bears?

Baylor vs. Ole Miss betting odds and trends

    • Spread: Ole Miss -1 (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
    • Over/Under: 58
    • Moneyline: Ole Miss -120, Baylor +100

In a year in which opt-outs have ravaged teams across the nation in their final games of the year, these squads will be at full force. That showcases the cultures Lane Kiffin and Dave Aranda have instilled into their locker rooms. So, which team comes out on top with both at 100%?

Well, although Baylor has only allowed 19.2 points per game this year, they haven’t faced an offense quite like Kiffin’s. Matt Corral will have WRs Dontario Drummond, Braylon Sanders, and Jonathan Mingo on the field together for the first time in a long time. Additionally, RBs Jerrion Ealy (121 attempts), Snoop Conner (119), and Henry Parrish Jr. (101) all averaged over 5 yards per carry this season.

With their offense at full force, I expect Ole Miss to send Corral, the rest of their NFL Draft prospects, and their seniors out with a bowl victory. However, Baylor won’t let that happen without a fight.

    Baylor vs. Ole Miss prediction

The Rebels aren’t exceptional on defense. Outside of edge rushers Sam Williams and Cedric Johnson, their front seven is exploitable. That is music to Baylor’s ears, as their offensive line is one of the best in the nation. Running back Abram Smith should have a field day on the ground. And as long as QB Bohanan doesn’t reaggravate his shoulder injury, he should keep the chains moving.

Defensively, the Bears are loaded. Do-it-all slot defender Jalen Pitre is Derwin James-lite, DT Siaka Ika is a menace in the trenches, and S JT Woods has made opposing QBs pay all season. Corral will need to take care of the football and keep his foot on the pedal in this one.

While Baylor can thrive on the ground against Ole Miss, if they get down early, it won’t matter. Corral will want to prove he is worthy of being the first QB selected in April. And if he plays to his potential in Kiffin’s offensive scheme, there will be more New Year’s fireworks. The game starts slow, with the Bears dictating the tempo. Nevertheless, Bohanon and Co. can’t keep up once the Rebels’ offense starts churning.

Baylor vs. Ole Miss Prediction: Ole Miss 35, Baylor 24
