What Happened to Baker Mayfield in Week 5 vs. Falcons?

Late in the third quarter, Mayfield was sacked by Falcons defensive tackle David Onyemata on third down, ending a Bucs red zone drive. Mayfield was awkwardly twisted on the sack and appeared to get rolled up on his right leg.

He was slow to get off the field and slammed his right leg and foot into the turf while coming off the field.

Mayfield went to the sideline after the drive under his own power and sat on the bench. Chase McLaughlin extended the Tampa Bay lead to 27-20. At the time of his injury, Mayfield was 16-19 for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Mayfield waived off any medical attention and was seen standing on the sideline during the Falcons’ next possesion. He led the Buccaneers’ next offensive drive without missing a snap and completed a pass to Mike Evans on his first play, followed by an 18-yard scramble.

The Buccaneers QB completed the game without further issue, despite the overtime loss to the Falcons. No update was provided by head coach Todd Bowles during postgame interviews. Mayfield should be considered fine moving forward, but the Buccaneers injury report should be monitored in the days ahead.
