He remained in the game and completed 1 of 2 pass attempts the rest of the drive as Tampa Bay went on to score with a 35-yard field goal to pull ahead 20-6 with 7:01 left in the game. Mayfield was 18 of 29 for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception on the day.
Mayfield has provided much of Tampa Bay’s offensive production this season. He entered Sunday at 179 of 276 for 1,865 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions on the season.
After the game, Mayfield told reporters that his thumb feels good. He did not seem overly concerned but did undergo testing on Monday, per NFL Network.
Fortunately, Mayfield did not suffer any damage to his thumb, as ESPN reported. He’s not expected to miss any practice sessions and will be available for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.
An intriguing additional element to this is that Mayfield has an incentive for $1 million if he plays 85% of the Buccaneers’ offensive snaps. That doubles to $2 million if Tampa Bay also makes the playoffs.
Fantasy Implications of Potential Baker Mayfield Injury
Mayfield has thrown for over 230 yards and 2+ TD passes in three straight games after finding Mike Evans and Rachaad White for scores through the air against Tennessee.
If Mayfield did suffer an injury to his throwing hand and has to miss time, the Bucs will have to rely on Kyle Trask under center to keep this passing offense rolling. This could drastically impact the fantasy value of Evans and Chris Godwin, who have both been reliable fantasy options this season.
