An arrest warrant was issued for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice Wednesday afternoon in connection to his involvement in a multi-vehicle accident on U.S. 75 in Dallas in late March.
According to WFAA, Rice, 23, is facing eight charges for the accident: six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault.
The driver of the Corvette also involved at the time of the collision was Theodore Knox, 21, and will face the same charges as Rice. Knox, a current cornerback on the SMU football team, played with Rice in college. The passengers in the vehicle will not be charged.
Rice’s attorney, State Sen. Royce West, confirmed that Rice acknowledged he was driving the Lamborghini SUV involved in the accident. Rice was renting the Lamborghini SUV from Classic Lifestyle and leasing the Corvette that Knox was driving.
A police report states that six people were split between the Lamborghini and the Corvette, which were speeding on Route 75 just before 6:30 p.m. on March 30. The vehicles lost control and subsequently caused a crash involving six vehicles. Dashcam footage showed three men leaving the Lamborghini SUV after it came to a stop.
The Dallas Police Department allows suspects a chance to turn themselves in before sending officers for an arrest. As a result, it’s unclear when Rice will be taken into custody.
All occupants of both the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the scene, leaving the victims behind with no information or insurance exchange. The police report also stated marijuana was found in both cards, among credit cards, a $16,500 check, a diamond chain, and the playbook for the Chiefs.
A couple, two of the victims in the crash, were taken to the hospital. Tennessee Walker, the attorney representing them stated the couple is “angry.”
“She had a very big laceration on her left eye. She’s got several stitches that were put in at the hospital, and the eye socket is completely swollen and black and blue,” Walker said.
