Colorado’s Travis Hunter is among the most hyped players in the 2025 NFL Draft and is likely to be picked by a top-five team, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper, who recently heaped praise on the two-way star.
Kiper’s take: “We’re talking about the best player in the class, so the fit has to be a team likely to pick in the top five, if not earlier. The Patriots would love to have the 6’1″, 185-pound Hunter, regardless of his position in the pros. Quarterback Drake Maye needs a legitimate WR1, and Hunter can be that guy.”
During a conversation with his former teammate Xavier Weaver on his podcast The Travis Hunter Show, the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver and Hunter discussed various directions his jersey number could take.
Will Travis Hunter Be Able To Keep the No. 12 Jersey in the Pros?
Hunter, who currently wears the No. 12, revealed the number he would choose if he doesn’t get his current one on his future team.
“If I don’t get number 12 bro, I’m going number 40,” Hunter said.
To which Weaver replied to saying, “You’re getting 12, bro.”
Hunter then defended his statement and said, “But what if I go to the Patriots? I ain’t wearing Tom Brady’s number, bro. That’s too much legacy. I respect Tom Brady too much to try to get number 12.”
Weaver responded, “Wherever you go, you going to get number 12 regardless if somebody got it on their back. I am telling you, it ain’t nothing to tell them, they know what your signing bonus is.”
Travis added, “I am telling you I’m rocking that number 30, but I am not buying a number again; I’m telling you, I’m about to rock number 40 though like nobody wants to give me number 12, they want me to pay for it bro, say goodbye.”
Shedeur Sanders Declares Travis Hunter the Best Player in CFB
While both Shedeur Sanders and Hunter are projected to be first-round picks and Heisman nominees, the Colorado quarterback has boldly paved the way for his teammate and said that he is the one who deserves to win the honor.
Following the Buffaloes’ 34-23 win over Cincinnati on Saturday, Sanders made his thoughts clear about who should win the Heisman Trophy:
“I just want Travis to win, of course, and that will be almost like I won because I threw him the ball. Travis is the best player in college football, hands down, and I’m excited for him to win it. That would just make my day.”
The Buffaloes now have an open week before facing Texas Tech on November 9.
