Are there Sunday football games today? NFL preseason Week 2

Are there any Sunday football games today in Week 2 of the NFL preseason, who is playing, and what are the main storylines in both games?

For the second straight week, we have football games highlighting our Sunday. After we had one game last Sunday, Week 2 of the NFL preseason brings us two contests to enjoy. Let’s take a look at what games are on Sunday this week and when they are on.

Is there NFL preseason Sunday Football today?

Week 2 of the 2021 NFL preseason will see two Sunday games. One of those will be in the 1 PM ET window, with a break until the second at 7:30 PM ET. It may seem like a quiet Sunday relative to normal for the NFL, but this feels like the league gently reintroducing us and our loved ones to the concept of football on Sundays.

New York Giants at Cleveland Browns | 1 PM ET | NFL Network

It was a rough first week of preseason action for the New York Giants. Without Daniel Jones under center, they could only muster seven points against their city rivals, the New York Jets. However, the Giants did not play many of their starters on either side of the ball and took things somewhat more casually.

On the flip side, the Browns also rested the majority of their starters, and they won comfortably against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The reason this is significant is the Jaguars and Jets were essentially the same teams last year. That demonstrates what we could expect to see in the first football game on Sunday.

Unless the Giants improve significantly this week, we could once again see just how poor the depth of their roster appears to be. The Browns, on the other hand, seem to have plenty of depth to draw upon this season.

San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Chargers | 7:30 PM ET | NFL Network

Not having Justin Herbert on the field takes some excitement away from this matchup. In fact, from the Chargers’ side, there is limited excitement, with most starters not playing.

Still, there will be plenty of excitement on the 49ers’ side. After a mixed start to the preseason for Trey Lance, he will be hoping to flash significant improvement this week. He had a long touchdown completion, but the remaining numbers were mixed at best.

For both sides, there will be plenty to compete for at the bottom end of the roster. Before Tuesday, August 24, at 4 PM ET, all teams need to trim their roster down to 80 players ahead of Week 3 of the NFL preseason.
