The Kansas City Chiefs, despite many thinking this was a down year for them, found a way to win their second consecutive Super Bowl. A large part of that is due to having the best quarterback in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes, whose ability to make plays and elevate the play of those around him is why he’s mentioned among the game’s best.
However, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce believes he has the answer on how to stop Mahomes and the Chiefs. And he’s looking at the recipe for how greats in other sports were treated to do so.
Antonio Pierce Says Raiders Have Recipe To Beat Chiefs
The last loss that Mahomes and the Chiefs suffered in the 2023 season came on Christmas Day to Pierce and the Raiders. So maybe when Pierce says he has the recipe for beating them, he may be onto something.
That day, the Raiders sacked Mahomes four times, which is the second most he’s ever been sacked in a single game in his career. He also finished with 10 QB hits.
Additionally, Las Vegas scored two defensive touchdowns, including a pick-six, proving that they were able to frustrate Mahomes, and ultimately win as a result.
Pierce has since come out and said that he has the recipe to continue winning against the division rival and has looked at the way greats in the past have been treated for how to do so.
In a recent episode of Maxx Crosby’s The Rush podcast, Pierce discussed how he got his team ready to play Kansas City, and he looked at Michael Jordan specifically in how to do so.
“We’ve got the Jordan rules and what I’m calling, from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes rules,” Pierce said on the podcast.
“So, you remember when Jordan was going through it with the [Detroit] Pistons, all those guys in the ’80s; before he became Michael Jordan, Air Jordan, the Pistons used to whup his ass. Any time he came to the hole?
“Elbows, feeling him, love taps. We touched him. We’re in the head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually; I’m touching you. So, I showed those guys Jordan getting his ass whupped.”

It’s clear Pierce has a plan of attack. Whether it works out long term or if it was a one-off remains to be seen, but one thing Pierce knows for certain — if the Raiders want to get to where they’re trying to go, they need to go through Mahomes and the Chiefs to do it.
“We’ve got to win the division first. We’ve got to knock off the team in red. They’ve dominated for [eight] years. We’ve got to knock off the head of the snake: 15. We’ve got to do that first.”
